Detta kallar vi på Ahlsell en inkluderande jargong. Men en jargong kan också vara skadlig. Det handlar då om en jargong som inte uppskattas av alla, som uppfattas som negativ, exkluderande eller t.o.m. kränkande. Det svåra är att veta vem som faktiskt trivs i jargongen och vem som inte gör det. För att känna oss trygga i att vi har en inkluderande jargong, eller utveckla jargongen i rätt riktning där det inte är så, har vi under året jobbat med att ta fram ett material med övningar som alla team på Ahlsell kommer att fokusera på under 2024. came across this house yesterday and it made me think of something DEI related. It reminds me of a situation which some people in charge of DEI within the organization often face: 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩. It’s like being told to paint a house but not given a ladder to reach high places or enough paint to cover all the walls. You're just left to figure it out and you go as far as you can reach with what little you have. What’s the impact then? Does it look better? Did it make a change? Maybe. If there was a racist slur on that wall and it was painted over – then sure, it's better than doing nothing. Same goes for the organization’s efforts. But if you expect the DEI practitioners to deliver results that would mainstream across the whole organization without providing the necessary tools and resources – it will remain just a patch and not something that is made to last.
