✨The main bedroom✨ I removed the chimney breast 😱 I know, I know, "what about the character?" I hear you cry... At some point, the chimney breast in the dining room below was removed, leaving this bedroom one supported by first floor joists (not cool). So, with the help of my dad and sisters, I took it out! We got a structural engineer to come do some quick maths and now there's a steel that runs from the front to the back of the house 💪🏻 This supports what's left of the chimney stack. The ceiling joists were also badly bowed so we replaced a lot of them, and added straps and noggins to strengthen everything up. Welcome to what feels like the longest week ever! I'm whizzing around like a fly with a blue backside! We've got school productions, birthdays, trips, meetings and appointments to survive this week! Weeks like this don't make me feel like a tremendous success story, maybe it's the idea of 'Spring refreshes' being shoved in my face everywhere but I've had a few philosophical conversations this week about work/life balance with friends. I'm not sure what 'having it all' is but perhaps that is the bit we need to re-frame. If 'having it all' is a safe, comfortable home, loving family and work satisfaction (most of the time!) then I'm 100% totally HAVING IT ALL! If it's a multi-million earning business, a home by the sea somewhere hot and a selection of Louis Vuitton handbags then maybe not so much! The ‘link’ areas of a home are so often overlooked but they are the perfect place to create a vignette showcasing those decorative items that hold sentimental or simply aesthetic value. Here's a closer look of one of our recent projects in Delph. This is a painted timber shaker kitchen in a dark Green, with a Caesarstone quartz worktop, splashback and windowsils. We have used slat panelling from #woodupp under the seating area as well as the end wall to give a contemporary edge to the traditional shaker door. The tap is from #perrinandrowe, and is a "living finish". This means that as the tap is exposed to the elements and every day use, it will age and develop a unique patina, making this truly unique, and it's a finish we really love. The tap also have a separate pot-wash/rinse which we love. The switches and sockets are from #dowsingandreynolds and have a similar aged finish to the tap and ooze classic style. The extractor housing is simple but dramatic. For the bar unit, we have used an antique mirror back panel with LED strip lights down each side of the cabinet. The oak used on the shelves and wine-rack match the shelves used on the other side of the kitchen and co-ordinate well with the slat panelling. The doors are on a pocket system, which means that when they are open, they can be retracted into the sides so that the unit can stay open without the doors getting in the way, and the bar can really stand out. The oak chopping board and tray set really finish the bar unit off, but they are also incredibly practical. Solid Oak drawer boxes throughout with traditional dovetail joints really add to the quality feel of this bespoke kitchen. We really loved working on this project and getting to know the owners, who were two of the loveliest people we have met. A little #beforeandafter interior shot for you. I was super lucky to be able to work on this exquisite drawing room in south London, which had the most beautiful bare bones and iconic @ligneroset pumpkin chairs but needed warmth and colour to make it feel homely. Astonishingly my client has managed to keep these chairs white despite having a small child which blows my mind 🤣. The sky was pretty much the limit in this space so I picked pieces from @theofficialselfridges, @glasette, @__boccaccini, @pookylights, @harrods , @neptunehomeofficial, @dowsingandreynolds and many many more - and as my client opted for my procurement service, she had luxury deliveries coming for days which felt like all her Christmases come at once! Everytime I add a post of our new dining space somebody mr ruins this light. Now is t it just the light of dreams? I knew when I swapped the rooms around that this space needed a light that added drama, opulence and luxe! This ticked every box. Everyone who comes into the house talks about it. It’s from @dowsingandreynolds and I fell in love when I saw it on their website. I had a quiet day yesterday- just me, clearing, tidying and watching tv. Today I have my hosting hat back on as I have a ‘girls only night’. I’m going to cook something light but delicious. (I don’t actually know what yet but something will come to me). I bought light bulbs! And now the kitchen ceiling is complete - just need to hurry up and get the remainder finished! I splurged on @dowsingandreynolds stunning bubble chandelier - have a matching one for the dining room too. Love them! So, so pleased I got them! They remind us of the wishes in “Wish” - fantastic movie, highly recommend! And as all good things must be balanced, the pendants are gorgeous @value_lights that I’ve had my eye on for about a year! Next up; I’m going to add some colour to the walls (I’m thinking yellow…) and the joiner is back next week to do skirting and architraves. On my recent trip to the Homebuilding & Renovating Show in Exel, I attended a session with Ally Dowsing-Reynolds (from Dowsing&Reynolds), who said each room should have at least 8(!) sources of light. We all will agree that lighting creates Ambience..... that Feeling... that Omph ! I'm all about that OMPH right now... (Considering weather outside & my SAD syndrome kicking in. As I write, I'm sitting next to SAD lamp ... that evokes feelings of happiness!!!! 💛) So moving on ..... Each time I scroll on pictures gallery on my phone and I see Frosted Bubble Chandelier from D&R, I feel uplifted! So here's to 8(!) sources of light in a room !
