It was so lovely to take part in an embroidery workshop the other day & meet Rikke from Denmark who taught us how to embroider these gorgeous sea urchins! It was so much fun to embroider something a bit different from my usual landscapes! Check out Rikke’s beautiful work @dkmoonfeather and you can also buy your own sea urchin kit from her website. The loveliest thing I remember is Rikke telling us the Danish name for sea-urchin: søpindsvin which technically means ‘lake hedgehog’! Suitable for complete beginners who want to open the door to a new skill. 🌳 INTERMEDIATE - In this workshop, you will learn the art of applique as you make a woodland scene in a hoop. I will show you how to use stitches in creative ways to create depth and movement, and how to create eye catching foreground details with stitch. Suitable for stitchers with some prior knowledge who want to develop their skills. 🏞 EXPERIMENTER - In this worksop, you will learn to combine textile art skills to create a stunning landscape in a hoop. We’re embroidering a climate haiku feelings quilt to be featured in the Climate Imaginarium house on Governors Island. 🎨As activists, artists, and community organizers, we’ve experienced a spectrum of emotions around the climate crisis. Through this installation, we hope you will have a sense of possibility for the future so we can continue to do this important work as a community. We also hope you will feel validated and seen in both your despair and your hope. These poems are written to our community: our mother, our brother, our friends, to sustain them in a vision for another world. Have you ever wanted to learn to needle-felt? If you have then come and join me on Monday 20th May where we’ll be creating sunsets. You’ll learn various needle felting techniques and we’ll then add in some embroidery stitches and beads to add some extra detail. There will be coffee or tea with cake and a friendly atmosphere while I guide you through the art of needle felting. All materials and equipment will be included. 🪡 Every workshop I host always create original designs for participants to embroider, no matter what level. 🍹 For a Sip & Stitch, we do so much more than embroider, we get to sample a carefully curated menu of non-alcoholic beverages such as sparkling wines & spritzes. 🧵 As soon as you arrive, we welcome you with a beverage & teach you a few embroidery stitches. A great skill to have especially if you ever need to do a quick mend for any fabric or add an embellishment to a piece of clothing. 🛍️ Every participant receives a tote bag that they will embroider an original design with my guidance. You get to go home with the bag you’ve hand stitched, as well as a small kit of threads & needle. New hobby unlocked? I think so 🙂 🍷 You will have the opportunity to try three products provided by @knyotadrinks . Additionally every drink you try, we offer in depth knowledge about the product, what you can pair with it, the multiple ways you can serve it etc. 👯♀️ And of course, one of my favourite things about hosting Sip & Stitch Workshops is the opportunity to meet new people and to craft alongside with them. And, drink yummy drinks! Whether you’re already embroidering or trying something different, all levels are welcome.
