The game was at the Chiefโs stadium, the Arrowhead Stadium and WOW. What a stadium and what an atmosphere. We got there around 3 and could already tell there was an incredible buzz for this game. Seeing such a huge collection of football (soccer for you Americans) fans, all sharing this incredible experience was amazing. Seeing Messi play just blew my mind, seeing how nimble and quick he still is. True a once in a lifetime moment for me. ๐ โฆ. Anyway, to food. I didnโt have that much at the stadium, but I did want to share their jumbo hotdog, which was okay! Not the best Iโve ever hadโฆ but mainly wanted to share the absolute size of this Stella Artois, a 25oz can. ๐ป I definitely ate better in Kansas City itself, which Iโll be sharing so stay tuned ๐ฏ What a game. I have had this itch I needed to scratch to see if, having catered for large groups of appreciative friends at home, I could ever take SteamtrainBBQ beyond the confines of the garden and out on the road. For the last couple of months, when not painting @yeti bears for @socalbbqshop, and before the fun stuff can begin, I have been doing my food safety training, registering with local authorities, arranging insurance, sourcing suppliers, and doing a whole load of research and spreadsheets! The first event was booked to cater for @alresford_town our local men's football club, the home and away team, officials, committees, and stewards, which turned out to be around sixty, plus a few second helpings! Hopefully, this can become a regular pop-up for the club's spectators and anyone visiting the club on selected match days, maybe for the food as well as the football. My first offering consisted of smoked pulled pork and coleslaw topped with @wazs_sauce_hut in a potato bun with sides of Mac n Cheese and pickles. The pork butts from @hixsonmeatldn were seasoned with @meatchurch โThe Gospelโ all-purpose BBQ rub and smoked for 12 hours in the @traegergrills.uk Ironwood 885, using Traeger apple pellets. I think it went very well from all the great comments I received, so let's see how this little part-time project goes. It will never replace the day job, but the buzz you get from seeing people enjoy your food is insane and worth the effort. Atmosphere with the Ultras was next level from well before KO despite a heavy level of boozing in the stands. But it was noticeably positive rather than the edge of aggro you get at English football when things arenโt going your way - all about supporting the team. Phones are a total no go after KO (amazing). Fences and full terraced standing with no problems cos itโs not full of nobs. Makes you think.
