It is still #freethepiecefriday and these 9 new Tomica models showed up late at my house (thanks Vietnam for dedicated sellers who deliver to your doorstep even late on the day). As always with Tomica, they dont stay in their boxes for long. Nice refresh of the GT-R, with the return of opening doors. No such frivolities with the Toyota Crown, but the casting is crisp, and that's a nice-looking sedan. I was very surprised by the Land Cruiser as it comes with a metal base and feels very heavy. I have been trying to get my hands on the Porsche 992 GT3 RS by Minichamps64 for some time, unsuccessfully. Luckily, Timemicro stepped in, and i took delivery of this blue GT3 RS a couple of weeks ago. I dont know how it compares to the Minichamps64 version. For Free the Piece Friday, I recently cracked open my Hot Wheels '70 Buick GSX from the 50th Anniversary Zamac Flames Series. This Jun Imai casting design is based on the production version of the 1970 Buick GSX. Buick pulled out all the stops and introduced the GSX in 1970, which put the make on par with Chevrolet's LS-6, Pontiac's Judge and Oldsmobile's 442 W-30. With it's hood-mounted tachometer and front and rear spoilers, the 1970 Buick GSX was arguably the most radical muscle car Buick ever produced. For Free the Piece Friday, I recently cracked open my 1997 release of the Hot Wheels Split Window '63 Corvette from the dealer's choice Series. This casting has gone by at least 10 or more names over the years. The casting was designed by Larry Wood and first released in 1980 for the HiRakers series, which had rear axles that could be raised or lowered to increase the rake of the car. The base was retooled in 1987 to remove the Hi-Raker insert piece and switched to a solid rear axle. For Free the Piece Friday, I recently cracked open my 1996 release of the Hot Wheels Skullrider, collector number 593. This fantasy casting was designed by Larry Wood and is finished with pink chrome plating. Although this version was released in the first edition series, technically the casting debuted in the 1994 Color FX "Monster Models" 2-Pack under the name of "Grim Reaper".
