I was wandering by the lakeside, hoping to catch a perfect sunset shot. It was a peaceful evening, the kind where you can hear the soft clang of sailboat halyards tapping against their masts in the distance. Ducks were quacking playfully nearby, skimming the water’s surface and diving in for food. I kept my gaze fixed to the west, expecting the sky to light up with oranges and pinks. But, luck wasn't on my side. Thick clouds rolled across the horizon, hiding the sun’s farewell like a heavy grey curtain over a window. Feeling a bit disappointed, I decided to circle back around a giant boulder that marked the path’s bend. I turned to the east, just to stretch my legs a different way, and that’s when I saw it. Above me, a single cloud caught the sun’s hidden light, glowing as if it held a piece of the sun trapped inside its fluffy borders. It was breathtaking. “Beautiful,” I whispered to myself. I realized then how quickly the sun sets, each moment fleeting. I fumbled with my camera bag, pulling out the camera with haste. My hands worked at lightning speed to set up the shot. The light was perfect, and I didn’t want to lose it. I aimed, focused, and captured the moment just in time. The cloud radiated with an unbelievable range of colors, a rare sight that no one would believe unless they saw it in my photo. As I looked at the preview screen, a smile spread across my face. I got the shot, a beautiful accident, a reminder from nature. Walking back home, my camera safely tucked away, I thought about the evening’s unexpected lesson. I learned to always keep my eyes open, to look in all directions. Beauty isn't just where you expect to find it; sometimes, it surprises you from where you least expect it. Next time, I’ll remember to look around more—not just in one direction. For all photographers, capturing a sharp, in-focus image is crucial. We learn to harness camera settings and various techniques to achieve that perfect clarity in our photos. Yet, often when I review my pictures, the initial enthusiasm from the moment I pressed the shutter button fades as I notice the photo lacks the sharpness I desire. So why, upon surveying the scene, did I think, "This needs blur"? What was going through my mind? I observed an image with layers of greenery, blurred in the foreground, and the vague outlines of trees in the background, their forms merging earthy tones with the overcast sky. After the rain, I returned to my car. On my windshield, a constellation of droplets glimmered, each one a tiny orb of color. I leaned in, curious and captivated. Were the vibrant hues a reflection of the world around me—tail lights, traffic signals, neon signs—or something more magical? The colors appeared as if painted by an invisible hand, a spectrum trapped within each round bead of water. Could these raindrops be acting as prisms, bending the light that passed through their curves into ribbons of color? It seemed plausible, a simple trick of physics. But there was a part of me that wanted it to be something else, something that didn’t fit within the neat lines of science. I had to take a picture of these magical drops. I needed to act quickly as the sun was beginning to break through the clouds. I keep my camera in the car so I hurriedly retrieved it from it's cozy bag. Some of the drops were beginning to fade, returning to their transparent origins. I positioned myself as close to the glass as I could to focus on just of few of the remaining colorful beads. The glass was now clear, but my mind wasn't. As I set in the driver's seat, I started the engine, the purr of the car filling the silence, and as I drove away, the world outside merged into a blur. The mystery of the raindrops stayed with me, a lingering question mark at the back of my mind. Each time it rained, I would find myself back in that seat, eyes wide, heart filled with wonder, and always asking: are these colors a mere reflection, or are they something more—a secret world revealed through the prism of water? #chrislokeyphotography #waterdropphotography #photoart #photoartistry #photofineart #fwcamera

As I stand before this radiant field, my eyes can't help but dance from one color to another, swept up in the vibrancy of the tulips before me. The purples are deep and regal, standing tall with a quiet dignity. They remind me of velvet, rich and luxurious against the backdrop of spring's bright canvas. Interspersed among them are the reds, so vivid and passionate they seem almost ablaze with an inner fire, and I can feel their intensity stir something within me. The yellow tulips are like bursts of sunlight captured in petal form, exuding cheerfulness and warmth. They mingle with pinks that vary in shade from the softest blush to a more assertive magenta, each one a whispered promise of sweetness and light. Here and there, white tulips rise like notes of purity, their crispness cutting through the riot of color with an elegance that is both stark and soft. Beneath the tulips lies a sea of blue, a myriad of tiny flowers that could be a sky fallen to the earth. This azure expanse cradles the tulips, a fitting contrast that amplifies their splendor. It's like looking at a living impressionist painting, one that breathes and buzzes with life, for bees dart between the blooms, tireless in their pursuit of nectar. The air is cool and smells of a mix of earth and freshness, a scent that's as invigorating as the scene is enchanting. It's a symphony of spring, each note played by a different flower, each hue a different instrument. . GRATITUDE Over the last weekend I was given the opportunity to collaborate with the UFC and be part of their media team for the Fight Pass Invitational 6. An opportunity not only to shoot for the largest combat sports organization on the planet, but to also cover the sport of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu that’s been monumental in my life for the better part of ten years. “How was it??” is a common question being asked. To put it succinctly — amazing. Everybody from the top down were generous and accommodating, from the show runners to the staff media team to the security guys. It was obvious that they enjoyed their time there and had strong camaraderie with one another. To be willing to work odd hours to complete their missions, all the while treating me like one of their own. The staff media team, all amazing guys were also top notch and learnt a ton from them, and look forward to learning from them in the future. Of course, I’d be remiss if thanks weren’t given, namely to Stephen Tecci, the head honcho behind these FPI events and fought for my opportunity to be there. Him and his team put in countless hours into this show and knocked it out the park, and looking forward to what they have cooked up next. Many thanks to Michael Alexander for linking me with Tecci and always being supportive of my endeavors, owe you a ton, and may just have a nice bottle of whiskey with your name on it!! The staff at UFC PI and APEX were all uniformly great too. From Summer (a receptionist) who made sure I got to where I needed to be, to Phil who did the same, to Arthur and Steve who were always a step ahead with what I needed and made it happen, to Chris and Dane who showed what excellence was behind the camera lens. Fort Worth Camera has also been instrumental too — from keeping my gear in tip top shape to acquiring that same gear on short notice. Proud to be an ambassador for y’all!! (continued in comments)
