Soviet U-32M cascaded 3 stage image converter tube removed from a hungarian NSZP-3 rifle scope. This is a true gen1 tube as you can see on the brown tinted photocathode (probably S20). Unfortunately a lot of paint have chipped of during the removal which is not a huge problem. Maybe I will remove all of the paint with acetone in the future just to see the insides without damaging the tube. Quite a rare piece on its own. It was stated not working but as I have observed this tube I could not diagnose any kind of internal problem so maybe with new electronics it could be turned on (which I will try to do). This one was produced in 1977 and that is all I know about it. Soviet gen0 7B image converter's image. As all gen0 and gen1 tubes without fiber optic correction, this one also produces an image with fish eye effect. Look at the reticle in the middle. This type of tube was mounted in vehicle periscopes like the TKN-1S or the TPN1-22-11. I took this picture while I put it into my PNV-57E. I do not recommend doing the same because this one is a bit longer than B-8. You can't really screw the oculars back because of the length of this tube but for testing it was fine. Since it is gen0, it cannot amplify residual light. Been listening to Ranboo's Generation Loss playlists and am having many thoughts. I have this whole idea of what Generation 2 could be, based on lyrics and bands and influences and the time period. I pulled a lot from inspirations and references from Ghost, which takes up most of the playlist. I'm sorta thinkin that the protag, who I'm going to call Two, lives in a seemingly very regular town, as a very regular highschooler. But suddenly she notices that people are disappearing, more specifically, women, and no one is talking about them, or looking for them. It feels like the entire town is against her, is lying to her. Turns out there's a cult that maybe has something to do with and or are influenced by Showfall Media/or portals/concept of multiple dimensions. The cult lives deep in the woods and are misinterpreting showfall media/concept of dimensions as the work of a god. I think it'd take inspiration from the 80s satanic panic and the salem witch trials. I also think that our protag will be betrayed by some sort of friendship or romantic interest. One she thinks she can trust in a town that is lying to her, but they are actually a part of the cult as well, obsessed with the idea of indoctrinating her or using her in a ritual. I'm thinking Fear Street, Jennifer's Body. I think the vibe would feel overwhelming, crowded, suffocating, yet have empty feeling surroundings. Like you're trapped somewhere that isn't real. . . . . . Soviet B-3M gen0 image converter tube. This tube is brand new and it was never used. It was manufactured in 1977 by Ekran Optical Systems in Novosibirsk. It has the usual blue coloured front lens with silver-oxygen-cesium photocatode and an enormous screen at the back. >18kV DC is required to reliably operate this tube. As you can see this thing is huge compared to a B-8 gen1 image intensifier tube. This type of tube was used exclusively in vehicle periscopes like the TWN-2. I have it's original box and paper with matching serial numbers. The B-2K is a gen0 image converter tube. It was built with a silver-oxygen-cesium photocathode. This tube was also used in vehicles periscopes, mostly in tanks drivers periscopes like the твне–1па. It has other variants too like the B-2 or the B-2A and those are gen1+ tubes. This also requires >18kV DC high voltage. The tube on the picture was manufactured in 1987 and is not an Ekran product. They usually have this strange casing to mount them in their place but you can easily remove it. This neck-breaking Gen 0 NVG monstrosity is a 1975 dated pair of Polish NS-71 night vision goggles, with its original wooden storage box and accessories. The NS-71 (Noktowizor Saperski - Sapper's Night Vision) was, as the name implies, a variant of the PNW-57 tanker's night vision goggles modified to clamp onto the brim of a standard Wz. 67 steel helmet for sappers to use at night. While the regular PNW-57's use the infrared lamps mounted on the vehicles and run off their internal plug-ins, the NS-71 is an entirely self contained unit with its own IR lamp that swivels up and down, and connects via two cables to a battery box/transformer with low and high power settings that can be worn via a shoulder strap, inside the included large canvas bag, or with two clip-on belt loops. The box includes several accessories including a tool kit with spare bulbs, screws, wrenches, screwdrivers, spare IR lens, a battery storage box for the silver-zinc batteries, and an instruction manual for how to charge, discharge, store, test, and fill the silver-zinc batteries with electrolytes. The goggles themselves have a double hinged arm, albeit very hard to articulate, adjustable lens, and a spare, smaller clamp, perhaps to attach to a different type of headgear. The carry bag is oversized with extra padding and an interior divider and pocket for storing the battery box, spare batteries, lens cleaner, spare lens/bulbs, and the tool kit for when using the goggles. In all, a very cool and retro model but highly obsolete and cumbersome, especially by the 1970's when these were produced.
