The poster also scribbles the words “militant” and “worker” over the original Marxist newspapers that Oswald was holding. This poster was created shortly before LBJ signed the gun control act of 1968 barring many felons, the mentally ill, and drug users from owning firearms as well as mail ordering of many firearms. The gun control act was popularized by some members of Congress and citizens who were still reeling from the assassinations of Robert F Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr earlier that year, and President John F Kennedy 5 years earlier.

Today’s layout is inspired by a suggestion from last week’s AMA story. “1980s Soldier Posted on the Fulda Gap”. The Fulda Gap is a strategically important area that has been used by many great armies throughout history. But in this context it was seen as the best possible location for the Soviets to launch a surprise attack utilizing tanks. Based off many pictures of US troops stationed on guard, I’ve decided to use a PASGT helmet, a salty faded M81 BDU RAID mod, a Tactical LBV, M81 trousers, and an A2. The Tactical LBV (also called LBV-88 or M1988 LBV) was the first attempt at replacing ALICE web gear. It proved to have breathability issues and was replaced with the Enhanced Tactical LBV with mesh base and angled pouches in the mid 90s. Fun fact: the NSN is the same for the 88 and the Enhanced, so don’t buy surplus online based off NSN only. RAID Mod by @hubcityoutdoors . Finally got my hands on a Civil Defense helmet. Not 100% sure of the age of this helmet, I’m having a difficult time finding any useful information about these helmets. But from my understanding, these helmets were used from WW2 to when Civil Defense (USCD) ended in 1979. There’s a little bit of rust bubbling under the paint on one side that’s worrying me a little, so I’m going to repaint it (just the outside of the helmet, and the bottom of the brim). Rust-oleum “Heirloom White” satin finish was recommended to me for matching the original color. Over 380 Peacemakers were built for the USAF. It could carry 86,000 pounds of nuclear or conventional bombs with a range of up to 12,000 miles. Do you know how many engines a B-36 has? Obr43 uniform (Soviet Union) The "gimnasterka" tunic was in service in the militaries of Russia for a century or more. It first began to appear in the Tsarist Russian Army in the 1870s, and would not be replaced by something more modern until 1969 (although some remained in service after this). Naturally in that time it went through some changes. The Bolsheviks, keen on discarding any elements of the Red Army's uniforms that retained a "Tsarist" feel, got rid of the traditional rank structure and the accompanying insignia. Rank, as it existed in the 1920s, was instead worn on the sleeve. Eventually the Soviets realized that this was no way to run a military, and so the Tsarist-style rank system was reintroduced in 1935, to be worn on the collar tabs. In turn, this insignia was found to be difficult to see in combat, and so shoulder boards were reinstated in full in 1943. The stand-and-fall collar was also removed. At first, officers were the only ones given chest pockets, followed by women in September 1944, and finally all ranks from early 1945 (although pocketless tunics remained in production until 1948). I will confess that I am not particularly skilled when it comes to uniforms like this. However, in consultation with some of my more knowledgeable colleagues (who can chime in if they like, as I don't remember their usernames here), the material used on this uniform is not of wartime manufacture. The buttons and perhaps the shoulder boards have likely also been replaced, as those tend to wear out quickly but are pristine here, unlike the rest of the uniform. However, there is ghosting from the Order of the Red Star - whoever wore it originally was likely a World War II veteran. The shoulder boards on this uniform are from before 1955, at which point they were changed to a solid color. 📆 30 de abril de 1975 se produce la caída de Saígon. Los comunistas tomaron Saigon y forzaron la rendición de los survietnamitas que eran aliados de Estados Unidos. Las tropas de Vietnam del norte toman la capital de Vietnam del Sur. Un año y meses despues, -2 de Junio de 1976-, para ser precisos, se reunifica el país bajo el nombre de la República Socialista de Vietnam: la guerra habia terminado. Y con eso concluye casi veinte años de conflictos desde su independencia de Francia, y catorce años en medio de marcada intervenciones de Estados Unidos a partir de 1964. La victoria del Vietcong se produce luego de la salida total de las tropas norteamericanas. Se calcula que en este conflicto murieron entre 3 y 6 millones de personas y por ello, éste es considerado uno de los conflictos mas importantes de la Guerra Fría. Part of the Yorkshire Air Museum collection at Elvington and lovingly maintained in live condition by the @nimrod_xv250 group, Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR2 XV250 first flew in January 1971 in the initial MR1 configuration of the Comet-derived maritime patrol aircraft. The type was developed to replace the RAF’s ageing Shackleton fleet in the anti-submarine warfare role with some 50 production airframes built. XV250 was updated to MR2 standard in the early 1980s, with the installation of an improved avionics and electronic warfare suite, weapons accommodation and more. The type saw service in the Falklands War, the 1991 Gulf War (Operation Granby) and post-9/11 missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, before being axed in 2010 amid the cancelled MRA4 upgrade programme. Nimrod XV250 made her final flight in March of that year. Today in Labor History April 30 1945: Eva Braun and Adolph Hitler committed suicide, in Berlin, after being married for less than 40 hours. Many Nazis were tried, convicted and executed. And literally thousands were secreted into the U.S., given false identities, and put to work as spies, intelligence officers, informants, and rocket scientists in the Cold War. Some of them had even been high-ranking Nazi Party officials, secret police chiefs, and heads of concentration camps. In fact, during the first few years after WWII ended, it was easier to get into the U.S. as a Nazi than it was as a Jewish concentration camp survivor. This weekend we had the utmost pleasure of talking to and displaying with Cpt. (Ret) David Yeager, a veteran of the 320th Field Artillery Regiment who served on the island of Grenada during the 1983 invasion. In addition to his combat service, Captain Yeager was also awarded a bronze star. We were treated to an expansive spread of equipment and original artifacts to bolster our own display, including FIST equipment; enthralling stories of his time in the Army, and great company. He also graciously donated a handful of manuals and smaller items to aid in our research.
