A wine based gin, triple distilling from Vancouver Island wine grapes including their own estate-grown Pinot Gris and Grüner Veltline. Contemporary gin style, but not kind of aggressive perfume way. Ingredients : Local Cacao, Almond, Hazelnut, vanilla, Pepper Lime, Lemon, Taiwan honey flavor black tea, black cardamom, green cardamom and golden berry. The Distiller Alex ( @myers._alejandro ) does some magic to evolve the gin by using different kinds of barrel. They have peated barrel aged gin ( blending with Laphroaig and Arbeg barrel aged gin ), Single cask bourbon barrel aged gin , Mccarthy peated barrel aged gin, and some unreleased 5yo apple brandy barrel aged gin and PX Sherry casks aged gin. He tried to use gin to represent all these unique and incredible ingredients we have here in Taiwan. The Herb Alley Gin is one of the master piece of them. The gin is made with lots of unique botanical and herbal which can represent the flavor for the old Alley street located in Taipei Which has one of the biggest herbal retaining market in Taiwan. On the nose, it brings the freshly grassy, herbal and pine oily fragrance, mild minty and gentle bright floral scent come after. On the palate, it is not like any kinds of gin I have had here in Canada or even around the world. It provides slight sweetness from different kinds of flowers, and different kinds of layers of bitterness from the unique herbal. So fresh and well balanced. Most of them are only half price here in Taiwan ~ Glenfarclas 17 yo single-malt-whisky bottling at 43 % ABV It is hard to find the 17 yo version not only in Canada but also in Taiwan as well. Luckily my mom got one, and she has most of the series from 105, 15 yo, 17yo, 21 yo and 25 yo. Lots of people believe that 17 yo version is one of the most representative works among them with the perfect balance between malt, oak and Sherry flavor. On the nose, it brings rich and enjoyable ripe grape like Sherry fruity sweetness, and gentle oaky dark bitterness. Maybe some vanilla profile comes in the end. On the palate, it provides full and soft Sherry sweetness, elegant oaky bitterness, maybe some berry sour in the back , and ending with medium to Long lasting Finish with dry, woody-nutty, and mild espresso bitterness comes back again. Most of them are only half price here in Taiwan ~ Mortlach 16-year-old Flora & Fauna bottling / 2.81 distilled Bottling at 43.4% ABV On the nose, it is full of grape like floral fragrance mixing with fresh oaky spice and sherry fruity scent. I will give 8.5/10 for the performance on the nose. On the palate, It has more alcohol spice than I expect. Since it is 16 yo, and I expect it brings the smooth taste like Glenfarclas 15 yo. Dried raisins like fruity sweetness comes first, then you can taste mild chocolate oaky bitterness, finishing with short dark oloroso notes. I will only give 7/10. The body is thin on palate but with rich flavor on the nose I actually have no idea about the 2.81 distilled. I am really excited when I know that they age their award winning Kazuki gin into Red Fife Whisky barrels. Lots of distilleries have started trying to age their own gin into different barrels for making something new. I have tried so many barrels aged gin no matter from BC or other areas but not all of them can make it successfully. For this barrel aged Kazuki Gin, It brings me a different tasting profile comparing with the original Kazuki gin. On the nose : You can feel the fresh apple cider flavor, light caramel sweetness and the floral fragrance which are gently embraced by the unique sandalwood scent ( from the 8 months aging in red Fife Whisky barrels ). Palate: Rich and warm spice hit you immediately, then comes with the enjoyable bitterness from the barrel and dry flavor keeps tickling your taste buds which making you mouthwatering. To be honest, the barrel works a lot and changes this gin beautifully. It finds a balance between aromatic and woody flavor. l'm going to tell you that I really enjoy the new flavor given from the barrel ! Not sure if this gin is still available or not? A Gin made with white truffle from Piedmont which is one of the rarest and most expensive botanicals in the world. Does it work 🤔 ? Honestly, I was a little bit dubious when I firstly saw this one available in BC liquor 🤪. Since not everyone can accept the unique flavor from Truffle and the price there is insane. But, this gin works amazingly !!!! On the nose, the unique gasline like scent is very dominant and perfectly works with the juniper fragrance. The lovely truffle scent is just in the right amount so that you want to smell it again and again and I could smell it for ages ~ On the palate, light sweetness comes first, warm and gentle spice chasing after then the truffle flavor just like a time bomb, exploding the unique truffle flavor in perfect timing and doing a long aftertaste finish. The flavor from this truffle gin is so unique and wonderful 😋. I have more than 60 different kinds of gin and this is definitely the most unique one !
