Is your partner pregnant and you want to know how to prepare to be an amazing birth partner? Here are some tips: It is helpful to learn about the stages of labour, pain relief options, and birth plans together. Be a part of the process, attend appointments and scans, help choose baby items. We also recommend helping to pack the hospital bag – you will most likely need to find things during labour and after the birth, so ensure you know what is in it and where! Discuss with your partner what comfort measure they may like during labour. Have a few ideas in mind such as massages, cool cloths, and words of encouragement to help mama through the labour. If you both love music, consider putting a play list together for labour. Work with your care team, get to know the obstetrician so you are comfortable to ask questions or advocate if needed. The midwives are also there to support your partner, they are also an important ally for you as they can help guide you on comfort measures and support for your partner. It is also important to let a midwife know if you are you're feeling overwhelmed or faint! On occasion dad’s have fainted during labour and we aren’t aware until they have hit the floor! So, if you are feeling faint, let the midwife know so they can assist you. It's important to take care of yourself too! Remember, dads and partners, you play a vital role in the birthing process. By being informed, supportive, and a strong advocate for your partner, you'll be the birth partner your mama needs! Blue hour bump glow ✨️ Timing is everything! When we schedule your sunrise/sunset session, keep in mind that your block is scheduled for the best light, and being on time is essential as that gorgeous light won't wait. Of course, unexpected occurances can occur, but the best way to ensure a stress free session is to leave with plenty of time to spare ⏳️ Check your google maps ahead of time & before leaving to account for changes in traffic or accidents on your route. Let’s talk about Separation Anxiety - this is a normal development phase that most children will experience, you may find that your baby will be clingier and fear strangers and unfamiliar environments. It can start from 8 months and last to 24 months. If you and your baby are struggling with separation anxiety, here are some tips that may help: 👋It may sound silly, but practising your goodbyes could help. Start with short, happy goodbyes. Maybe it's a quick trip to the mailbox or playing peek-a-boo. Gradually increase the length of separation as your baby gets comfortable. 🤗Babies love routine, perhaps create a goodbye ritual like a special song or hug. This consistency helps your baby know what to expect, making separation less stressful. 🧸Leave a familiar comfort item like a stuffed animal or blanket with your baby when you're apart to provide a sense of security. 👶 Even though your baby might not understand completely, talk to them about where you're going and when you'll be back. If you can be specific it can help, for example, “I will pick you up after snack time in the afternoon.” That gives them a marker in the day when you will return. 🥰 When you reunite, shower your baby with love and attention! This reinforces that coming back is a happy thing. Separation anxiety is hard, but it is a normal development stage. It is healthy for both you and baby to be apart at times.
