The dunes of Maspalomas are often advertised as one of the main tourist attractions in Gran Canaria. However, what not many websites/posts mention is that it is actually a nature reserve, and movement in this area is restricted for visitors. Unfortunately, I must confess that we also walked in areas where it is not allowed, which we regret. What may seem like an innocent action is actually forbidden in order to protect the fragile ecosystem of the dunes and prevent their gradual disappearance. . So, if you are planning to visit, it's important to know that there are certain areas that allow free movement, and others have designated paths where you can walk and admire this natural beauty. . Playing around in the dunes 🌪️ I truly recommend spending one hour or two in the Dunas de Maspalomas, take photos, run, climb, have fun! This is also a great spot to watch the sunset while having an ice-cream 🍦They sell very good helados in the hotel Riu (just behind Mirador de las Dunas). A hidden gem in Gran Canaria! . 📍Presa de la Sorrueda is a peaceful spot located near Barranco de Tirajana. The scenery is truly idyllic. From the viewpoint, which you can reach by car, you will see the water dam at the bottom of the valley, surrounded by palm trees.🌴 And the best thing is that this place is hidden away from the crowds. We went at sunset and only met another couple. . You can walk all the way down to the water dam along a path lined with palm trees and cacti, but you can also admire this lovely scenery from above. We decided to walk further down a bit to find the best spot for the picture. It was magical to see how the top of the mountain was bathing in the last rays of sun.🌅 . This is Barranco de las Vacas in Gran Canaria!🇪🇸 The diversity of the landscapes in Gran Canaria impressed me greatly, and this place is definitely a great example of that. It was one of the must-see items on our list, so we headed there literally right after getting off the plane and picking up our rental car. . Although this place is becoming very popular, it is not easy to get to. Firstly, you need to know exactly what to put into Google Maps cause otherwise, you will end up somewhere else. Then the next challenge is to know where to stop (there's no roadsign) and find a place to park. Finally, once you start walking down the trail, at one point, it's confusing to know which direction to go as the canyon is hidden from plain sight. Gran Canaria is one of those places that won't always make things easy for travellers, but the effort is 100% worth it! . The main reason why it's so famous is because the mountains on the left remind visitors of the tail of a dinosaur!🦕 . Here's what you need to know: 1. The road to get there is not for the fainthearted. If you are coming from the direction of Las Palmas, at the beginning, you will drive along steep cliffs with deep falls. So if you are scared of heights, better not look down.😄 Also, the road is full of sharp turns, which you should know if you get carsick. 2. Probably because of the reasons above, this place is not usually crowded. We were lucky to have it to ourselves for 30 minutes, but just as we were leaving, 3 other cars arrived. 3.
