Self-Portrait 04.18.24 My sketchbook was filled about two months ago but I never got around to completing the last page with my portrait (as I always do) until today. I took a picture to use as reference but rushed to create this little piece in between my classes. Grumbacher Team artist @chrissysparksart arranges her palette for an upcoming painting using Pre-Tested oils. The practice of testing out paints for their consistency and vibrancy is vital before starting a new project and consulting a Grumbacher "Color Computer" can come in handy! For instance, when a color is too bright and needs to be toned down, or you want to create a shadow, mix a small amount of the color opposite on the color wheel to “neutralize” the color. For example, add a small amount of ultramarine blue to cadmium orange to take a little of the fire out of the orange. 🎨
