Not for sale! This is a customer’s 1960s Hagstrom (made by Bjarton in Sweden) H-33E 12-string guitar. While the H-33 isn’t advertised with a pickup, this one has one and the electrified version of their H-45 model is an H-45E, so I assume that makes this an H-33E! Anyhow, it’s got a solid spruce top and ply mahogany back and sides. This had seen some recent work by a different repairman but his neck reset did not hold firm so I gave it another reset, fully-compensated the saddle, fit a ground for the strings at the pins, cleaned up the wiring, and strung it up light and nickel-wound to make use of the magnetic pickup. Roky Erickson, the psychedelic rock pioneer and later band Ghost used to sing: "If you have ghosts, you have everything". After 4 years of just observing this guitar I can finally say I now have a ghost since the name of this guitar is "Fantomen", which stands for ghost in Swedish - and now I truly have everything (well not really 😂). But still, can't be a true scandinavian rock fanboy without owning a piece of scandinavian gear amirite? This is truly an awesome guitar from @hagstrom_guitars which came from a collaboration with @thebandghost (can you tell the pickguard resembles the ghoul mask?). It is a perfect instrument for the sound I was seeking. My roots are definitely in psychedelic rock, proto-metal and goth rock and this guitar can truly deliver that sound. It is perfect for classic proto-metal (like Blue Öyster Cult or early Ghost which I both love for example) while also crushing modern metal and anything that requires long sustaining tones. To top it off, it can truly deliver amazing blues sounds if you're into that sorts of stuff. Cleans on this one are a beauty. This guitar is truly a versatile beast. So what are my favorite things about this guitar? Well definitely how well it sustains, holds the tuning stability and how versatile it is in general. This guitar will be used on my own record and also future covers on my Youtube channel. It will definitely be my go-to guitar for rhythm tracks and anything that requires long sustaining tones. Definitely expect even more Ghost covers (which is by far the most requested band for me to cover on my channel by the way) Also special thanks to @thomann.music for perfectly setting up the guitar according to my specs! This morning I took a walk along the High Line which grows longer, greener and prettier on each visit. It’s such a peaceful haven… until about 9am when the crowds descend! I also managed to get last minute tickets to see Jeremy Strong & Michael Imperioli in An Enemy of The People - my first Broadway play and first ever experience of a performance in the round. It was quite simply brilliant, powerful, immersive and a real treat to see the two leads as brothers in moral conflict. Anyway, today’s photo! What do Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Lenny Kilmister have in common? They all at some point used one of these crazy 8 string basses! Check out this awesome 1968 @hagstrom_guitars H8 8 string bass with original hardshell case, one of the most asked about instruments in our shop right now. This is essentially the bass version of a 12 string guitar, with the extra four strings doubling the normally tuned strings up an octave. Unicord, the American retailer for Hagstrom guitars, suggested the design to Karl-Erik Hagstrom who built the first prototype in 1966. From ‘67 to ‘69, a little over two thousand of these cool basses were produced, with mahogany bodies and a 30” scale length. This particular example has had the neck pickup swapped for a Gibson EB-0 pickup for some added low end power.
