Here is a post from my shop @texrepairs I just did that you guys might find interesting… Original 1994 Bernie Raunig Filmosound amp own by Jim Cuddy of @bluerodeoofficial in for some serious TLC. The amp had some major oscillation issues and was squealing like crazy. This one had the odd EQ switch on the front that was a big part of the issue, it also had some bad capacitors. As you can see it’s not made very neatly, it’s a bird’s nest & a challenge working on these but I am an expert on these amps so no problem…. 😎 anyway I fixed it all up took out that EQ network and instead of leaving a hole I put a master volume in the spot. It works fabulously in the amp! This amp sounds Godlike, believe it or not. And, the next mod step - the tremolo cut switch mod. I got a on-off switch that you put on the tremolo intensity pot. When off, the tremolo circuit is completely bypassed, which in turn boosts the guitar signal a bit. This leads to a slight volume boost and also a lower “sweet spot” on the volume dial - it breaks up a little earlier. Which is great, in conjunction with the bright switch. I didn’t want to drill a hole in the chassis for an external switch but wanted it completely reversible, so I attached it on the inside of the chassis - after testing it I decided that it’ll be “always off” - meaning tremolo off, boost on! #vibrolux #bandmaster #tubeampmods #tubeamp #ab763 #fenderamps

STC (the Standard Telephone Company) who originally manufactured the wonderful 4038 ribbon mic (now under the Coles name), also manufactured large vacuum tubes and entire radio transmitters nearly 100 years ago. A pair of these enormous triode valves completed a 30,000 watt audio amplifier that put the sound onto the radio wave. Running on 8000 volts and with 300 Amps of current heating them, they broadcasted Icelandic radio voices across the land and the North Atlantic for over half a century. Work work work. I’m in Niskayuna getting things organized and making space for my guitars and amps. I will be temporarily setting up the recording gear in my bedroom and I’ll also be keeping the guitars and two or three small amps there. The remaining amps will be stored in the basement for the time being. This isn’t an ideal situation but it’ll do for a year or so while we settle in here. Meanwhile @cathymeinhold is still on Long Island doing a bang-up job getting that house ready to be shown.
Given to me from a friend's garage; a cute little Eddystone RS840 HF radio, once living aboard a fishing ship. You know just by the look of it what it should become right? It has a UL41 output tube giving about 4 watts of grunt into the 6 inch speaker cone. And there is space for two more little speakers in the metal front panel. But wait; it's a direct mains AC/DC set, meaning there is NO isolation from the dangerous wall outlet...úff! Such a clever way to cut costs, but at the cost of safety for the user. Fitting an audio input to this thing will be tricky, unless I fit a power transformer to isolate the circuit from the mains... Or an audio input transformer???? So... What should it become??
