While admiring the blooms on our wild hyacinth (Camassia scilloides), I noticed it shimmered in the light. Some flowers appear to sparkle due to structural reasons. The petals have a texture too small for us to see that refract the light in such a way that appears to make them glitter. The wisdom those who have led long lives always share focuses on spending time #learning and growing, being #kind and #curious, and prioritising developing meaningful #relationships with other people. 🌱 Yet, the current model in organisations generally puts these aspects towards the back of the list of priorities. Our systems, tools, models focus on getting things done, progress is measured in milestones, results are evaluated through commercial accomplishments. How these were achieved, the impact on people, whether they can be sustained for another quarter or year to come, is rarely explored. 📈 The challenge is, we become what we measure. When we work in environments where success is measured solely in this way, there is a trade-off, and by and large, it's at our expense as #humans. At the extreme, it can mean we engage in unethical, cruel, even illegal behaviours, to deliver the result we believe we have to. It's time for New Measures of Success. When I installed the alternator I bent over the fuel arm to make clearance which after a while led to it leaking, I planned to rebuild the carb but then decided to replace it altogether. Problem was the shiny new carb then put the rest of the engine to shame so out came the engine to get stripped down and have all the seals replaced and the tinware powder coated. I then decided to go really overboard and buy new heat exchangers, an exhaust and for good measure threw in a rear disc brake conversion 😂 The other beetle also needed a starter so Bella got a new one, still some work to do to get everything dialled in but she’s almost ready for summer.
