Throwback to ~230 years old country house that I was consigned to do full 3D model and completely redesign bath house extension. The owner of the estate is avid supporter of Finnish motorsport, so it was decided to do quite special one off sauna. First wall towards to baths is completely smoked glass, but rest of the walls are enlighten with long art pieces by yours truly, highlighing the special moments of finnish Group B-drivers and their drives. Such is the scale that not only you could see cars tyres and exhaust smoking, but also my iMac and Photoshop were almost literally on fire. On the back wall there is longest piece celebrating Henri Toivonen on Lancia Delta and Markku Alen on 037. On the sidewalls there are separate illuminated pieces from Salonen on Peugeot and Mikkola on legendary Audi printed on aluminium. These memories of national sporting pride are quite fitting to this estate that has also been central piece to other historical events in our country’s history. For example in one room of this country house was catched Russian telegraph signal on world war 2, that they are going to attack Finland, and that gave us one day of time to prepare for inescapable war. AMURDERER 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Stradalé ♤ 247 HP TwinCharged 1.8 I4 - ABARTH 233 ATR 18S (Current MSRP) - $550,000 / $1,100,000 [Only __ produced] {Rally Legend Series} With Competition in Group B Rally in the Mid 80's Audi devised the S1 Quattro, Peugeot The 205 T16 which were cars with AWD Capabilities, Lancia at the time only had the 037, A small, supercharged rear wheeled contender that couldn't keep up with its AWD competition, so Lancia developed the (Supercharged 4) a 4 wheel drive, TwinCharged Successor of 037, and it was extremely successful, winning in a single season 12 days in a row. It also could reach 0-100mph in 2.5 seconds, on gravel, in 1985, some cars were presumably dynoed around 1000hp. Its Homologated variant The S4 Stradalé was the first production car with a turbo, and a supercharger. Unfortunately the car was banned a year later, and it caused the termination of Group B because of the deaths of Henri Toivonen and his navigator Sergio Cresto after they failed to turn a curve. Because of this, the S4 was originally supposed to have around 200 Homologated units but because of the FISA terminating Group B, the production of the road going variants were cut, meaning that there are an unknown amount of S4 Stradalés in the world. If there is trouble, I’m as good as dead.” - Henri Toivonen, Corsica 1986. Toivonen, driving a Lancia Delta S4, died in a crash on 2 May 1986 while leading the Tour de Corse rally. His American co-driver, Sergio Cresto, also perished when the Lancia plunged down a ravine and exploded. The fatal crash occurred without any close witnesses, and the only remnants of the car were the blackened spaceframe, rendering it impossible to determine the cause of the crash. Henri Toivonen "Henri e Sergio sono usciti di strada e la macchina ha preso fuoco...". Il dramma, la fine. La fine di un'epoca che, per qualche anno, avrebbe potuto vedere il dominio incontrastato del panorama rally da parte di questo ragazzo, del suo navigatore e della loro formidabile squadra. Ma facciamo un passo indietro... Nato in Finlandia, figlio di un rallysta, Henri muove i primi passi tra le varie gare nazionali, passando poi per il campionato britannico ed il campionato europeo. Nel 1980, a 24 anni, diventa il pilota più giovane a vincere un rally iridato, aggiudicandosi il RAC e l'Artic Rally a bordo di una Talbot ufficiale. Nei successivi quattro anni corse per Opel e Porsche, ottenendo non molti risultati a causa di vetture quasi mai all'altezza della situazione. Infine il passaggio in Lancia, nel 1985, a bordo della ormai obsoleta 037, con la quale fece alcune gare prima di infortunarsi. Ma nel 1986, grazie anche ad una formidabile vettura, la stagione partì benissimo, con una grandissima vittoria al Rallye di Montecarlo. Al rally di Svezia si portò subito al comando ma fu costretto al ritiro a causa di un guasto meccanico. In portogallo stessa storia, ma a causa di un incidente in cui rimasero vittime alcuni spettatori, i piloti decisero di indire uno sciopero del quale Toivo fu portavoce. Al costa Smeralda ottenne una vittoria schiacciante, candidandosi seriamente come principale contendente al titolo. Fino a quel 2 maggio 1986, un anno esatto dopo, con lo stesso numero di gara, del compianto Attilio Bettega. Anche quella volta stava dominando, con ben oltre due minuti di vantaggio sul secondo... volava. Forse troppo, troppo anche per lui e per la sua S4, che scendendo dal Col D'Ominanda, uscí di strada e si incendiò senza lasciare scampo a lui e al suo navigatore Sergio Cresto. Un pilota che è rimasto nel cuore di tutti gli appassionati e che, grazie al suo talento, avrebbe potuto scrivere pagine importanti nella storia dei rally. Filmem o Ferrari nic nekončí. Na přes rok nás čeká další snímek z prostředí motorsportu, který bude vzpomínat na mýtickou skupinu B. U té příležitosti zavzpomínejme na jednoho z rytířů té doby. "This rally is insane, even though everything is going well at the moment. If there will be trouble, I'm as good as dead." Tohle byla jedna z posledních věcí, kterou řekl Henri Toivonen před tím, než uhořel ve své Deltě S4. Zemřít s volantem v ruce... Vědomí téhle možnosti měli piloti rally speciálu v osmdesátkách v podstatě pokaždé, když usedali do kokpitu. Auta se technologicky dostala na takovou úroveň, že víc než o závodění začalo opravdu jít o život. Byť ti nejlepší řidiči dokázali i tak dostat auto na hranu, cena byla taková, že se po soutěžích omdlévalo jak fyzickým tak psychickým vyčerpáním. Je to už 37 let. V místě nehody nebyli očití svědci. Toivonen svou Deltu nerozvěsil na trati. V plné rychlosti totiž vyletěl ze svahu a po nárazech do skal a stromů se prorazila palivová nádrž. Následovala exploze a kremace. Osudná Rally Tour de Corse v roce 1986. Šlo o pátou soutěž v sezoně. Group B ale měla na kahánku už od začátku roku. Bylo to jen o tom, co ještě se musí stát, aby celou věc FIA přehodnotila a změnila pravidla hry. Přesto mnoho z nás nikdy nepřestane vzpomínat, obdivovat a uctívat tuhle dobu, tyhle jezdce a samozřejmě i závodní monstra Group B.
