. LEDA CALLS TO ME… Yes, there is indeed other work. Other projects with a higher priority I should be completing, but I could not ignore Her call… This post presents to you the finished pen and ink art for Leda and the Swan, of which you last viewed as a pencil drawing some weeks ago. I’ve included a video which takes you through the process and the tools used to bring this piece to its next stage. Dreams of line art art by Windsor McKay ignited excitement to start inking, and boarder designs by Alphonse Mucha lead to my revised frame design that will hold the illustration, shown here as a composite of rough sketches thrown together in Photoshop. The original design seemed a bit cramped (shown here as well), and thanks to some appreciated design advice from the amazing @brian_harrisonlever I realized this needed a reworking. The short video that closes this Insta-exhibit shows the work that most influenced my ink rendering and design choices. And to my utter delight, I just read about how one of these talented draftsmen influenced the other: In 1904 Alphonse Mucha had established a studio in New York and this interested McCay. “I think it would be wise for every art student to set up a certain popular artist whom he likes best and adapt his ‘handling’ or style. You don’t have to copy his drawings, but when you are puzzled with any part of your work, see how it has been handled by your favorite and fix it up in a similar manner.” McCay was as good as his word. He injected new spirit into the voluptuous line, outlines, and arbitrary, flatcolor patterning of Art Nouveau. Thanks for looking and reading! 🌼🐌 Garden Snail crawls along the ground, looking up through the blades of grass and trunks of wily daisies to the light blue sky. Seems like a good day to be alive. All of my line work is done with a glass dip ink pen and India ink. The subject is done in one continuous line. Then I go back and add the musical flow with thicker and thinner lines. . DELIVERING ANOTHER ANGEL… Who was born from a dream: She put one finger to her lips to keep me from crying out, while her other hand pushed away the dark rolling clouds. And she released the most glorious string of stars across the now clear night sky. The full moon, finally visible, winked and smiled in gratitude. The world felt safe and good again… I sketched her the next morning before my dream vaporized. Now inked and colored, my star dispensing Angel sketch has become my latest finished work.
