Sometimes you just need some bright red ink to liven up a grey day. I tried my best to sketch an amazing red dress from @irisvanherpen , the most talented designer - check out her creations , they are from another world . I started with a black ink line sketch , loosely added red ink and then mixed the bright @higginsinks pigment and drawing inks with the super white to add the highlights , which I am doing in this video. The white acts like a gouache when mixed with color and is perfect for going back to add highlights . The lines with the dots is about as technical as I ever get when sketching with pen and ink . The joy comes from the glide of a pen, making a line on paper . I love my new glass dip pen , it just glides across the paper and holds a large amount of ink . It is not easy to get fine lines with this pen but I am not striving for perfection , and it is great practice in simplifying the lines of the face . I referenced @sktchy for the faces , @higginsinks Super white ink on @kohinoorusa black drawing paper. Experimenting with sketching in layers for @higginsinks #inktober . My friend @melligramm posted a cool nightime photo of a Lake Michigan beach, I decided to try to capture the effect in a sketch . Using vellum I started with Black Magic ink sketched with a glass dip pen , adding a few washes for shading . On a separate piece of solid white paper i scribbled in the background colors with @tombowusa brush markers and blended these highly soluble markers with water . The top layer sketched with ink is a transparent vellum paper from @bordenrileypaper . My first image is the final artwork with the vellum sketched layer laid over the colored paper layer. The last photo is the sketched layer of vellum only , it picked up a small amount of color on the backside when i laid it on the wet color i made with markers - which is why it is a lighter version . I was photographing a wonderful white ink sketch when I knocked the bottle over . Immediate frantic action occurred and I was able to clean it up. My sketch on the other hand took a hit, so I use my Black Magic brush marker and the remnants of my white ink to selvage it ( last photo) but I prefer the original . Pardon my chaotic video ...Plein air Inktober continues at the top of a limestone mountain at Rockport Park near Alpena . It was super windy and not very comfortable sitting in the jagged limestone chunks but I managed a decent sketch of my sister @lake.mich.gal cracking open a rock , a lucky one that had a snail fossil inside . It's spawning season on Blorax XIV for the Plumantium Gibbles. That's not snow falling from the sky its Gibbles larva. As they land on the ground and begin absorbing nutrients their life cycles spark and they start to grow. Inktober Day 2: Comfy-Cozy I made my drawing in the nick of time to complete day two. I had a super busy day and then I had a four hour drive up north, but I knew once I made it up here, I had to get to inking 😊 I really like the outcome of this cute little piece. I used one of my dogs as inspiration for this piece as she always seems to look very comfy where ever she chooses to rest. Luckily, I am on vacation for the next four days so I will have plenty of time to draw my next prompts.
