Back in the summer I got a couple bottles of different stuff from Barreled Souls including this Plum Honey Pot. This is a wheat wine beer with plum and strong at 12.8%. It pours like a brown ale look wise but smells almost sour like. Taste wise it’s not what I fully expected. It’s sweet and you definitely taste honey. I do think I taste the plum fruit in it too. It’s not at all sharp tasting for being such a high percentage. Finally, I got down to @giesenbraubierco yesterday. I've been wanting to get there for quite a while, but things just never seemed to align until yesterday. Doreen and I finally had the chance to go. Being a German brewery, they have several "traditional" German beers beers on tap. While it was tempting to go for some of those more normal beers, like the Dopplebock or Hefeweizen. Instead, I went for the Barrel Aged Nova Praha Med. In Czeck, this means New Prague Honey. It's an Imperial stout brewed with local honey and then aged in Breckenridge Bourbon Barrels. 10.1% ABV If you haven't been. I suggest you try to get down there. Typically, I would suggest Oktoberfest, but last night, we learned they are planning a Lager Fest in May. Count me in!!! Soviel nehme ich vorweg die Mischung aus Rhöner Landbier mit dem importierten Puri Manuka Honig aus Neuseeland ist richtig stark. Ein feiner Hauch von Säure gepaart mit süß-malzigen Honigaromen und einer angenehmen bierigen Hopfenbitterkeit, ergeben eine tolle Harmonie. Dazu die schöne Bernsteinfarbe des Bieres. I haven’t yet visited Brewery Ommegang (Cooperstown, New York, USA), but I’m a big fan. I love what they have done to promote Belgian beer styles in the US, and of course, they brew many other beers as well. This is a story of an EXCLUSIVE new beer: Farm Fresh Ale. It is definitely Belgian-inspired, harkening back to Ommegang’s roots. Brewed with local ingredients and distributed only in New York, it’s all about drinking the fresh beer that’s in your own backyard. I was lucky enough to score a can of this gem. Farm Fresh Ale has nice esters on the nose; a Saison-like bouquet that’s an intersection between banana and bubblegum. There’s a lightly sweet impression with floral notes and mild spicy phenols. Flavors follow from the aroma, with lots of layers to unpack. While this brew is easy to drink, it’s anything but simple. What makes Farm Fresh Ale extra special is can-conditioning using local wildflower honey. This creates a rocky, persistent white head and the beer is effervescent with bubbles continuing to rise to the top. This is a refreshing patio beer as we begin to have some warmer spring afternoons, and sessionable at 4.8% ABV. I’m sad that I’m not in New York. If you are, you should definitely get your hands on Farm Fresh Ale. Brewery: Helmsley Brewing Co. Beer: Helmsley Honey The only thing better than honey... is more honey, and you get plenty of that honey goodness with Helmsely Brewing Co's Helmsley Honey. First sips definitely featured the sweet characters of the honey, but surprising not too overpowering, allowing the subtle notes of hop and bitterness to creep in. Delivering plenty of crispness, this sweet pale ale has plenty of layers to it, mixing sweetness with hopy aromas and a great smoothness to it. Might be a bit hard to have a night of this as I did feel rather full after the pint from the thickness of the honey. Blending the traditional character of a golden ale with the sweet nectar of local honey, this beer brings a sweet balance for a very easy drinking experience. Von Hochberg - Pils 🇩🇪 Heute gibt es ein Bier, welches von meiner Schwiegermutter eingebraut wurde. Meine Schwiegermutter betreibt normalerweise anstatt der Brauerei die Imkerei. Eingebraut wurde das Bier dementsprechend mit selbstproduziertem Honig. Das Bier hat einen recht hohen Kohlensäuregehalt, schmeckt getreidig-fruchtig und auch die Süße des Honigs ist zu schmecken. Der klassische Pilstrinker wird eventuell etwas die Herbe und Hopfigkeit vermissen, dennoch ein meiner Meinung nach gelungener erster Brauversuch.
