If you weren’t at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2023, you’ve probably never seen this historic Indy prototype in person. Originally referred to as the 1955 Indy Car Streamliner, it was expected to be finished by 1956 – in time for two-time Indy winner Bill Vukovich to race it. Sadly, Vukovich died in the 57th lap of the 1955 Indianapolis 500. The car’s owner, Howard Keck, never finished the car and put it in storage for several decades. Eventually the car was purchased, restored, and finished to the original specs by a man named Jimmy Dobbs. A quick google search indicates the car was later sold in 2018, for $35,000. It changed hands again in 2019, this time for somewhere between 370k to 390k! And taking a look at it today, I’m guessing this one-of-a-kind historic Indy racer (that never raced) is worth quite a bit more today! #TBT Sometimes I miss the hunt. I photographed this 2014 Cadillac ELR in 2012. It was difficult to sell these to some publications because I was told they were "too perfect" - they looked staged. But this was far from being set up - these engineers did everything they could to get away from me and my long lens. Meanwhile, their maneuvers gave me a 360° look and awesome photos of each of their test vehicles while I was simply standing by the side of the road.
