In 1971, Jaguar introduced the Series 3 E-Type, transitioning from a sports car to a grand tourer. This model featured a longer wheelbase, previously exclusive to the “2+2” coupe, enhancing both space and comfort for passengers. The iconic inline six-cylinder engine was replaced with a powerful 5.3-liter V-12 engine, delivering 272 horsepower and achieving 0–100 km/h in under 7 sec. Updates included improved brakes, power steering, a larger front grille, flared arches, wider tires, and a distinctive four-tip exhaust. A “V-12” badge highlighted the robust engine. This particular Type E was initially delivered in 1973 in Leeds, Yorkshire, and has been in France since 1993, maintaining excellent condition. Available now at @CarJager. The reverse lights have been separated off from the main units and reside either side of the ‘Jaguar’ script and the foglights are relegated to the bumper. An interesting piece of history is now for sale in Moscow - Jaguar Vanden Plas H.E. V12. Price 20.000€. On Friday we met with the owner and I did a little inspection (he is also an ex-owner of a diesel X350, what an odd choice). Series 3 is a Moscow car, a lot of service history since the 2000s in one single specialized service for Jags. Originally from Germany, 130,000 km, interior and leather in good condition. But the worst thing is that the car was repainted by one of the cheapest services with a bad reputation. There is a lot of rust in the trunk under the spare tire, and there is also some rust on the bottom, where it was not covered in an attempt to hide it. The paint has already started to bulge on the roof and A-pillar (not sure it is a right word). Also, the car was poorly assembled, the doors hang crookedly, the rubber around the rear window has come off and so on. At the same time, Jag regularly visited the service with many bills for hundreds of euros (many thousands of rubles). The V12 is smooth and quiet, no smoke on the rear. According to the Jag-Lovers website, 5.3 Vanden Plas H.E. no more than 1,000 units were assembled for the European market until 1983. Let's see how soon a new owner will be found who is (cash)ready to eliminate all external defects, because in Russia the main thing is appearance, otherwise there will be no respect from others, and this is very important of course 🫡 PS. The steering wheel is awful. The Jaguar E-type Series 3 was launched in March 1971, although production had commenced in 1970. For some time it had been an open secret that Jaguar was working on a V12 engine and, as had been the case with the XK engine in the 1940s, the company decided to try out the new power plant in a sports car before fitting it to their saloon model. The V12 engine (the first mass-production modern V12) was an absolute gem and did much to restore the glamour of the E-type, but in many other respects, the car was now a bit behind the times. The re-styling with a big front grille was considered controversial. The longer wheelbase of the two-plus-two was now adopted for the open car, which therefore could also be fitted with the automatic gearbox, although it lacked the occasional rear seats of the coupé. As ever, the cars were mostly sold in North America. The end of production in June 1974 was hastened by the first oil crisis, which made E-types rather difficult to sell, and conceivably by tightening US regulations which for 1975 set new standards for rear impact protection that the E-type could not meet, and also demanded the fitting of a catalytic converter. The Series 3 V12 was immediately identifiable from both front and rear, thanks to the new grille at the front, and the large V12 badge at the rear, together with the extractor vent on the rear hatch of this two-plus-two in Regency Red.
