We the Karen Music School in collaboration with @chamber.music.ke are so excited to introduce the Acacia Trio performing for us @karencountryclub on 22/05/2024. The Acacia Trio is the one Kenya’s newest ensemble featuring three of Kenya’s prolific musicians who have been part of the growth of classical music in Kenya. Michael James , the pianist is a composer, arranger, conductor and he was a director of one of Kenya’s original operas. His wife Ciiru James has trained many kenyan operatic singers who were also part of the Kenyan original operas such as “nyanga , the runaway grandmother. Philip Maina is one of Kenya’s top Clarinettist who has featured in multiple ensembles in Kenya and has also has also composed a piece that was featured in the Common Wealth Games This trio is clearly experienced in their craft and have joined forces to prepare a repertoire that relates to nature; a topic that has been on the forefront of concern as a global community. Spent the weekend helping to raise the next generation of musicians once again at the former Duke of York school and now Lenana School. It was great listening and responding to their questions as well as the jam session with their school band. I remember how difficult it was to get people in the industry back when I was in high school since the only professionals who would visit to talk to us were politicians 🤪, doctors/surgeons, engineers and lawyers.
