Here's an axe I forged back in 2017, it popped up on my FB memories today. I had planned on selling this axe but decided to keep it, and I'm sure glad I did. Shortly after finishing this axe, Wayne ended up purchasing a 100+ year old cabin and adding it onto their 60 year old cabin. We used this axe along with a chisel I forged to clean up and adjust nearly every log that had a mortise and tenon. I've always had a thing for these Old Hickory knives. After my grandfather and grandmother passed away, I found this old butcher knife in one of their kitchen drawers. Wayne and I had some fun this weekend. We recently lucked into some 1/16th thick blue tempered spring steel. We challenged ourselves so that in about 2 hours, we cut, profiled, ground, handled, and sharpened a knife each. I'd like to tell a little bit of a story that shows not only what a dummy I can be, but also a reminder there are many kind and honest humans in this world. [LONG post] A year and a half ago, I forged this axe and sold it to a fellow Axe Junkie located in Ireland. So, on February 20th 2021 I shipped this axe off to live a happy life spitting more wood chips than a beaver on crack. Little did I know, I filled out the shipping label and customs field wrong (Irish addresses are far different than US addresses). This axe traveled from Evansville, IN to Newark, NJ. A few weeks later, it appeared in Austrailia. A few weeks later, it appeared back in NJ. Then, a few weeks later it appeared in U.K., then Ireland for delivery, then deemed undeliverable, and a few weeks later appeared in NJ to be returned. However, on its way back somewhere between NJ and IN it disappeared into the dark abyss to never be seen again. Or so I thought. Mid-week I'm scrolling through reddit until I fall asleep like I do every night, and a post in an axe group made me stop scrolling. Someone had posted a pic of a pop tart and an axe with blue painters tape covering the bit (for scale of size) asking for help identifying the makers mark, along with what size handle they should put on it. I thought "oh, hey, that's my axe. I made that." Then, I realized "Oh wait, that's THAT axe!" This young chap in Ohio purchased this axe head at gun show. I messaged him, asking if I could buy it back from him. Long story short, he was kind enough to send it back to me when he could have easily ignored my messages and hung on to a hand-forged axe head which he bought for a steal of a price. What a nice dude!
