After debuting in 2019, the K-pop quintet @cix.official has had the opportunity to travel around the world, which the group acknowledges as a fun perk of their job. “I try to explore each city as our schedule allows,” group leader and rapper BX told us. “A tour allows us to take a look at various cities. In that sense, the [North American] tour always provides great memories for us.” Their tour – which includes concerts in Chicago, Montreal, and Mexico City – kicks off on May 12. The entire band shared their views on whether they work on new songs on the road, what they miss most about Korea when they're on tour, and which members actually don't like traveling much at all. It was like meeting with old friends - many hugs were exchanged without any of the nerves or awkwardness that might be present when you first meet someone. From @blackpink to @bts.bighitofficial, there really is no denying the cultural impact of K-pop. Now a new coming-of age-series is bringing the phenomenon to Canadian television screens. @gangnamprojectofficial is told through the eyes of a 16-year-old Korean-Canadian named Hannah Shin (Julia Kim Caldwell), who travels to Korea to work as an English tutor for K-pop trainees at a major company. Shin soon finds herself recruited as a K-pop trainee herself — learning how to dance and perform for a crowd all while working towards her K-pop idol dreams. For Sarah Haasz, the show’s creator and co-showrunner, the series was six years in the making. Though its arrival couldn’t have come at a better time. “I think it's because there are K-pop fans in every single country,” she said in an interview with bunni pop. “When BTS or Blackpink tour, they sell out everywhere. Because of this, we want to reach an international audience as well. And just like that, Saea Miray Ji is officially #1yearold 🎂🎈#생후365일 This has been a year of many, many firsts, and it's incredible to see first-hand just how far she's come in her first year of life. 🥹💖 Not too many changes since month 11, but she now has 1 extra tooth (7 total), is much more friendly with strangers and has finally adjusted to daycare! 🎉 We hosted her birthday super early (at the beginning of the month) so Grandma could celebrate with us before she flew back to Korea. A huge thank you to all our amazing friends who joined us for this special milestone celebration, and especially to @jeffreyes0914 @lurpylurp & @iamjeremyloor for arranging all the catering, baking the cakes (with handmade edible flowers 🙀) and to @sarakt @marcusdhanoosingh for helping with all the decor and making a beautiful balloon garland! We had a traditional Korean 1st birthday party (#첫돌) and she ended up picking either a soccer ball or microphone (up for debate) so we'll see if she ends up with a career in sports or entertainment (or neither). 😆 생일 축하해 우리 딸! I really had done so much work, and was so proud of my own self-acceptance and measuring my worth based on totally different metrics,” Greta said when asked about her breakout moment coming 20 years after her start in the industry. “After a certain point, there was no way for me not to feel like if I wanted to live a life of joy, which I think I deserve, then I had to let go,” Greta continued. “I really made peace with accepting there was no place for me there, but I didn’t want to give up. Now that I’ve gotten this chance through ‘Past Lives,’ which was absolutely the opportunity of my life, it’s fascinating. It’s a relentless exercise in honoring the spirit of what I’ve found before and also finding the joy to step into the spotlight and take it. It’s so much bigger than me. I know now what’s possible. After spending most of 2023 & this past January on a world tour that took them across 5 continents, P1Harmony leader Keeho said he's already looking forward to hitting the road again. “When we first started touring, I was a little scared that I would get tired of it,” the Korean Canadian artist said in a @Zoom interview from Seoul. “But that never happened. I feel like just being able to really experience different cultures made the touring experience so much more fun.” After 6 EPs, the group recently released their first full-length album “때깔 (Killin‘ It).” The band has announced their North American tour dates, which will include stops in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. Keeho has the kind of personality that is so warm & inviting. He gives thoughtful answers that are an insightful look into his life, which in turn helps promote @p1h_official. If there's another idol who he reminds me of in personality, it's Korean American idol @alexa_zbofficial, who I've also had the pleasure of interviewing a few times. As a North American of Korean ethnicity, it makes me happy to highlight other Koreans who were raised overseas, but still maintain strong ties to their family's roots. Also, I'd like to give a shout out to one of the best in the biz: @itskatchu. While she no longer works w/them, Kat helped break P1Harmony in the U.S. She invited press to see them live, even if she knew that wouldn't guarantee coverage. Our #interracialmarriage is recognized in every court of the nation. That’s freedom. So I made a #modernhanbok from a #koreancanadian designer and a by bubu from a #senegalesecanadian #blackcanadian designer. The choice of Canadian is also significant. Michael and I applied to become permanent residents of that country because we believed our lives would be better. We were accepted and now we have the #freedom to establish ourselves permanently in that great nation. Finally, this garment represents freedom from #fatphobia . As the Lunar New Year is being celebrated, Racism in Canada with Filmmaker Anthony Shim, Riceboy Sleeps, is an episode worth repeating. I grew up in a small town called Langley in British Columbia and moved back to Toronto in 2022. I studied biology and forensic science in my first life and in my last year of undergrad, I realized that a career in sciences was not for me. My passion for learning was just not enough. I always had an interest for design and marketing, so I decided to take up a couple courses.
