Kiptoo Taurus is most well known as a sculpture artist. His studio space sits on top of an old railyard, surrounded by a field of industrual and residential discard he uses to bring his large scale scultptures to life. We rent right now- and I heard lawn mowers starting up so I ran outside to grab some flowers before they were cut. I then decided to try to do a quick little painting of them during Max’s nap because they were just so pretty. I love little wildflowers. Tried out using some #watercolor dye papers and goodness… they are vibrant but very tricky! They’re at least more different from regular watercolors than I expected. Max had to get in on the picture action and stuck his little feet in (edit- that picture is now deleted). It seemed the right time to reintroduce myself for those of you who are new around here. My name is Brooke and I live in the beautiful rolling hills of Lexington, Ky. I’m an abstract artist and most of the pictures you’ve seen lately are of my new collection, Earth to Eden. Here are a few things about me: 🍦Ice cream over cake - no contest (The Tonight Dough by Ben and Jerry’s is a new fav!) 🐍My husband and I met as 10-year-olds growing up on the same street. (One of our first interactions was when he dared me to put a dead snake on my head and was stunned when I did it. 🤣) ⛪️ One of my earliest memories was my baptism. I was three years old and I remember the long red carpet and the pastor’s white robe. 👩🏻🏫Growing up, my career ambitions changed dramatically. At different points in time, I wanted to be a firefighter, 3rd-grade teacher, archeologist, brain surgeon, writer, and artist. 🖋️I’m a poet and have my MFA from Spalding University. My thesis was a collection of poems, titled Flying West. I still teach college-level Creative Writing and English classes online and love teaching creativity to others in many forms! The color palette for my newest collection, Earth to Eden is a bright one. I used to try to tone down the colors and use muted tones, but these bright colors of Prussian blue and magenta kept sneaking their way onto the palette. The boldness of these colors represents the presence of God’s glory for me. They are bold and bright and radiate the physical and spiritual together. The Earth to Eden collection is going up next week at First Presbyterian Church (171 Market Street, Lexington, KY 40507)!
