We were doing a big overnight trip in the Shulap mountain range near Bralorne, BC, biking through some of Canada’s most surreal terrain. We forged through wet creeks and grass all day completely soaking every bit of footwear we had. Although it was a summer night in August, the temperature began to drop. Needing dry shoes for the next day we slow roasted every item we had. After spending most of his time behind the lens himself, I was thrilled to get the chance to photograph him once again. For various reasons we chose the road up to the Kaunertal glacier for this shoot. It is beautiful, the road is mostly facing east and starts at an altitude of 2750m above sea level. There’s no traffic and the locals (including cows) are cool with downhill skating and we have been there many years ago, but someone forgot a SD card, 100km away. Little did I know that Mirko would surprise us by bringing along some of the best downhill skaters in the world to the campsite. After a BBQ, beers and a lot of laughter we managed to rise just in time for the sunrise the next morning. Mitch Thompson took the wheel of the follow car and I poked my head out of the sunroof. After some minutes of warming up, we came to the fastest passage of the road. To freeze the action of the jumping rider I used a flash with really short flash duration and then I used a smoke grenade so I could light the rider from behind and get that classic silhouette look. When the MTB rider knew that he was going to jump in almost complete darkness he wasn’t too stoked. On top of that it was so hard to get the smoke to stay in one place. The slightest wind just blew everything the wrong direction. This series, “Impressions: Traces and Imprints in Nature,” offers a unique perspective from two generations.✨ The first part, a slideshow, presents photographs taken by Wilfred Klarer (1940-1982), a skilled optician and professional pilot. These aerial views capture mountains from the cockpit of his aircraft, where the plane itself often becomes both tool and subject. Shot between the 1960s and early 1980s using a Hasselblad camera from the cockpit, these medium format colour slides provide a breathtaking perspective. The second part, featuring C-prints with mounts, comes from his grandson, Moritz Klarer (born 1999), a medical student. Within his photographic projects, Moritz explores the interaction between humanity and nature through imprints left in the mountains. In fall, I had the idea for the photo. I asked Thomas, the rider, if he would be down for it. He said yes immediately. Winter slowly arrived. The weather wasn’t happy about my project, as it was too windy, too warm, too snowy, - the list goes on! It felt like everything was against us! Even though, we had eliminated every single risk, two major components aren’t possible to control - humans and the weather. But then there was this day: fresh snow and low avalanche danger. We set everything up and had one chance. I couldn’t use serial shooting mode because of the flashes. I could press the shutter button only once so needed the perfect timing to capture Thomas. I want to show: life is more than a straight line where you see clearly from one point to the other. It dips and curves and often you don’t know what’s around the curve until you get there. 📸 Today, we're highlighting the remarkable artwork by Lukas Felder, a talented student from the Friedl Kubelka Photography School in Vienna, who took part in our recent temporary exhibition at Lumen Museum: The Mountain Hotel. From a snowy excursion to the Grand Hotel Karezza in the South Tyrolean Dolomites emerged the depiction of a glamorous era, veiled by the fog of history and a dense layer of snow. With the intention of capturing the nature of the Karer Pass, I ventured into the mountains with my parents. However, the snowstorm led us to the Grand Hotel at the foot of the Rosengarten, and we were virtually engulfed by the whirl of its splendid past. The atmosphere of former luxury tourism, devoid of any people in the hotel except for the porter, became an abstract experience reminiscent of the renowned Stephen King thriller "The Shining." Amidst the ambivalent environment of the Karer Pass, which merges traditional architecture with the modern world of today's tourism, the excursion yielded an intriguing overall picture, which should be clarified in the exhibition at Lumen: Analogue images as C-prints mounted on lightweight foam boards, placed on an installation of fabric, embodying the snow-covered and cloud-covered mountains. 🏔📷 #lumen #lumenmuseum #mountain #museumofmountainphotography #kronplatz #tourism #culture #southtyrol #winter #sun #museum #artrevelation #temporaryexhibition

As per usual, my timing is atrocious and a heat wave had descended onto Moab which meant we only had a few precious shaded hours in the afternoon to rig the lights into the crack. We were camping out in the sub-alpine, and the snow had been been stacking up all day. I wanted to shoot with my drone light in heavy snow, so we set out after dinner to get set up in some wide spaced old growth trees. The howling wind and heavy snow made for some really challenging shooting conditions, but the drone managed to stay in the air amidst the wind warning alarms. I was flying the drone back from a feature we had just shot, and went overtop this lone tree. We all decided that this would make a beautiful shot with a snowboarder in it. Das Museum ist eng verbunden mit der Geschichte des Kronplatz: Dort wo sich heute das Museum befindet, stand einst die erste Bergstation vom 1963. He is attempting a winter onsite lead of the route Blow Up (M8) on the western face of The Remarkables, over Queenstown.As the sun transitions to western afternoon light, it ignites a sharp glowing seam that crawls its way up the route. I take a deep breath and raise the camera. 24mm - too tight. I loosen the focal length to 14mm as the frame starts to take shape. Still too damn tight. I try to push my body back further. Mason flakes an arm, the pump causing him to vent out a pained scream as the blood drains. It was now or never, the frame is only centimeters off. In a split decision, I rip the screen out and thrust the back of the camera into the rock behind me.
