My take on the phases of the eclipse. This image shows the partial eclipse progressing as the moon gradually passed in front of the sun as seen from our location in Quebec. In the image of totality, you can actually see the moon! Amazing being able to capture data to show what we already knew — that the moon is sitting right there in the sky in front of the sun. . The moon is illuminated very slightly by “earthshine” - the sun’s light bouncing off of the earth and directing at the moon. If you follow my work, you may know that I am a big fan of Earthshine and oftentimes capture it during the crescent moon phase. During an eclipse, it is nearly impossible to see with your eyes, but try to see if you can catch it next time you see a crescent moon in the sky! . A (temporary?) break from eclipse photos. . SpaceX unlocked a new milestone last night by launching a single rocket TWENTY times! This booster is named B1062 (cute, right?). . This shot is the closest to liftoff that I have ever arrived at a spot prior to launch (about two minutes 😅). This happened after a different last minute idea didn’t pan out. But, I got the camera in place and it did its thing. A sign that launches (and associated photography) from Florida are getting so routine. I think this cadence is quite cool. . Awesome, Totality Awesome. . What a journey it has been chasing this eclipse. We’ve been planning to see another total solar eclipse since 2017 when getting to observe one in Oregon. First, we planned a trip to South America for an eclipse in 2020, which was up-ended by COVID travel restrictions. Then for the 2024 eclipse, we tried to plan it for Mexico, but logistics got in our way. Last year, we booked Texas as the best location. Unfortunately, a week or so ago, early cloud forecasts made us re-think our plans. We ultimately landed on Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦. . Our journey to our location began on Friday evening. An hour before landing during our flight to Montreal, we were informed that we would instead be landing in Toronto. After a long night without much sleep, we got a flight over to Montreal the next morning. Unfortunately, all five of our bags full of camera equipment were not onboard. This led to *DAYS* of fighting with the airline to locate them and have them urgently delivered. Ultimately, the four most important bags were delivered before we left Montreal for our hotel in the center of totality. . On the day of totality, cloud forecasts looked good with some slight chance of interference. We saw some clouds in the sky trying to block the show, but we got lucky with completely amazing views of the event! Absolutely incredible experience of truly seeing day turn into night. In this shot, you can see the sunrise on the horizon as totality was ending. . Oh,and just a few minutes after totality, I was informed by our hotel that our final bag had finally been delivered. The second best part of my day! . I have had this shot in my mind for YEARS now. What you are seeing is the sun setting behind the Orlando Icon. I took this photo from nearly 10 miles away at the MCO terminal top parking garage. From this angle, the sun lines up perfectly just two days each year. Last year when I tried, a small cloud got in the way! . Last year night, there was a rare perfectly cloudless sky and I knew it would be possible! . Interestingly, since the sun is so close the horizon and so far away, it looks a bit elliptical through distortion. Also, I caught some of the “green flash” on the top of the sun! . Citylights im Quartier - Panasonic GX80 - Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 - Nach dem Spaziergang durch das Quartier ist meine Zuneigung zum Panasonic mft-System wieder neu entfacht. Die GX80 ist so superkompakt, leicht und durch ihr Konzept, ein wenig mit dem Leica M-Feeling ausgestattet. Optimal also für die Stadtfotografie. Das 20mm Pancake hat vielleicht nicht den schnellsten AF bildet dafür sehr scharf und kontrastreich ab. Was haltet ihr vom mft-System? THROUGH THE MIST 4 kilometers uphill. On the steep slopes of an active volcano. Narrow, muddy paths. The air is thin. The ascent steep. All around us the deep greens of the dense cloud forest.
