🔸️LET'S HAVE SOME REAL TALK🔸️ Eine Frage, die man mir oft stellt, ist diese: "WARUM BIST DU IMMER SO POSITIV EINGESTELLT?" "Wäre ich negativ eingestellt, würde es nicht besser werden, im Gegenteil!" Mein Positives Denken musste ich mir in den letzten Jahren selbst beibringen. Bis ich diese Einstellung gewonnen und verinnerlicht hatte, war es ein langer und harter Weg. Versteh mich nicht falsch, auch ich habe negative Gedanken und Emotionen - daran ist auch nichts falsch, weil sie sein dürfen - doch ich weiss, wie ich wieder ins Positive umswitche. WIE WAR DAS FRÜHER? Ich war, wie soviele, auch negativ eingestellt und habe bei Problemen oder schwierigen Situationen gedacht "Was kommt noch?" oder "Warum passiert das mir?". Noch dazu war ich grossteils von negativen Menschen umgeben um habe mich von denen noch mehr "anstecken" lassen. WIE HAT ES SICH AUF MICH AUSGEWIRKT? Ich hatte nicht viel Selbstvertrauen und wenig Selbstwert. Wenn ich Träume oder Ziele hatte, habe ich mich durch die Meinungen anderer, wieder davon abbringen lassen. Auch hab ich mich immer mit anderen verglichen und zog mich so, noch mehr runter. WIE HAT SICH DAS GEÄNDERT? Ich musste lernen, dass ich für mein Leben selbst verantwortlich bin und auch für das, was darin geschieht. Mit der Zeit wurde mir auch klar, dass ich auch mein Umfeld verändern musste und auch meine Einstellung dazu. So kamen auch Antrieb und Motivation für Träume und Ziele dazu. WAR ES SCHWER? Jede Veränderung ist am Anfang schwer, weil man gewohntes ändern oder sogar verlassen muss. Die Arbeit mit sich selbst ist notwendig um weitere Schritte nach vorne zu gehen. WAS HABE ICH GELERNT? Das der Glaube an mich selbst, mein Selbstvertrauen, Selbstwert usw. nur von mir kommen kann! Dass ich für meine Gedanken und Gefühle verantwortlich bin bzw. wieviel Macht sie über mich haben. Dass es ganz allein an mir liegt, was ich aus meinem Leben mache! Mit Negativität kommst du nicht weiter im Leben! 5/7 - Jana The old parts of Nazareth are beautiful to walk around, I have so many happy memories of walking around those streets with my mum and grandparents. I used to sit and listen to my Sido playing the oud and piano when I was younger – he was a renowned musician in Nazareth. Any opportunity to see family back home was a blessing, there was always so much food, coffee and drinks at the family get togethers, seeing all our cousins that we don’t see very often because of the distance. Food is so important in Palestinian culture, it brings us all together. Walking into a room and seeing all the family sat around the table around homemade food is such a core memory for me. Being the eldest daughter in the family, it was my responsibility to make food with my Teta. Being able to share that experience with her is irreplaceable. We would roll warak dawali together and stuff them with vegetables. My Teta was passing on an age-old tradition onto me, and one day I will have the chance to pass that on to others. This is a part of our identity, not just a Palestinian one, but one directly related to our family. In Australia, we experience a huge level of privilege but the connection between people is not the same as what I experienced in Nazareth. In Nazareth, people share their life with one another and they share their skills. We have been quiet we know. The last few weeks have been difficult. You move to the other side of the world with teenagers. You move your dog, your job, your comforts, your life. We built the life we had at home together for 17 years so why do we feel after 4 months we should have it figured out. We wont, you won’t! I didn’t really have a holiday mode feeling when we arrived we got stuck straight into sorting the house, worrying about the girls and Toby whilst worrying about the pennies we spent. Doug jumped into a job with Sevenseas and I have a good job now. I already know I won’t stay in the job I have but am not too worried as I will slowly look for another one. If you’re here don’t worry about the feelings you are having of missing everything at home. I miss my food, I miss my favourite drinks, I miss feeling at home in my home. Doug speaks to people who have been here around 4 months everyday and they all say the same thing as us. We are happy but something is missing. I know with time I will find all my favourite Aussie things, for now I can say I do miss things at home ( not the weather or some of the views) I miss my nephews so much. Aus is not perfect, still has rubbish, trolleys and needles dumped around in some places. But at least you have a better background view 😂. It’s ok to feel like that when you move here, it’s ok to miss things in the UK, it’s ok to not be happy some days. Don’t let anyone tell you that you should suck it up because you left the UK and moved here. We are all human and we do get to feel like this. For most of us, including me we will have the outcome we want. We will be happy here and love life. One thing I have learnt (from Doug) is that you can’t sit on your butt and wait, you have to make the changes in your life yourself and go grab what it is your looking for. Somehow he keeps a smile, perhaps because he has managed to escape the horror of war. Samir and his friend Salah run an embroidery shop in the castle, writing with a sewing machine the names of passing tourists and occasionally gifting children a piece, as they did for my daughter Aoife. Yeppoon, it’s such a beautiful place when the ☀️ shining. We have been to Yeppoon before and stayed for 12 days - we loved it so much that we considered moving up here AND we spotted a 🐊 swimming between the flags, that was an experience!
