It's official we finally know who'll be playing Superman's parents in the upcoming movie and they are... Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent. Neva Howell - Martha Kent. In 1978, Proctor & Gamble offered a free SUPERMAN THE MOVIE poster with purchase of their products: One box of Spic and Span household cleaner, one box of Bounce fabric softener, three bars of Safeguard soap, OR three cans of Comet cleanser (seems like a lot). The posters measure 22 x 18” and featured four designs from which to choose, three of which are here: Superman in flight over Metropolis, baby Kal-El hoisting up Pa Kent’s pickup truck, or Jor-El sentencing the villains to the Phantom Zone. This almost-complete box (there are over a dozen of each poster, but a fourth poster of Superman flying straight one is missing from this set) features some nice graphics, and will now be where I house my smaller Superman the Movie posters that ain’t hanging on my walls! Ma and Pa 💖 Before anyone says anything, I made Martha Hispanic because I felt like it could add to the character. I wanted her to have more dimension then just Clark Kent’s adoptive mother and I also had an idea on how this could impact Clark. Maybe she was the one who influenced/made the og superman costume based off of Luchadores since the og was actually based off luchadores and wrestlers. Maybe she enjoyed watching the wrestlers or she would just have the Spanish channel on a lot and Clark liked to watch them which later influenced his suit. The colors and the crest is from his home world but everything else was influenced by his mama. I also think her being an immigrant gives her more depth and implies that there’s so much more for her character besides farmers wife. Quick side note, I think it’s dumb that she named him Clark after her maiden name so I made it Clantos since that’s also a Spanish last name and she just liked the name Clark. One final Marta note, most versions of Ma Kent from different universes are all white (since the character is) but the versions where she’s Hispanic always has Clark being morally grey/evil which I get changing and how that could impact his morality but it feels weird and I don’t care for that so this version of Ma is mother to just the good aligned superman. Now onto the lovely Pa. So I kept him as close to the OG since I think he’s good as he is but I did decide on having him be Jewish in honor of Superman’s creators: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (I’m going to mention Wayne Boring as he was also a creator but he wasn’t Jewish). Though it’s only the first issue, this series may very well be in the peripheral of the Eisner’s next year and looks set to be a great companion right next to DC’s New Frontier. Then my son returned it” Jor-El The heart of this entire run so far has been the surprise reunion between Superman and his biological parents Jor-El and Lara and a look at what life may have been like for Clark if he had been raised by his parents. As this penultimate issue opens, it’s now time for Superman to say goodbye so he can stop Brainiac which really hits you in the feels both seeing the love and adoration that his parents have for their “little Kal-El” and also reminds the reader that we too are almost at the end of the series and I really don’t want to say goodbye also. Lois and Lex have minor roles in this issue which I suspect will change in the finale and there’s some familiar faces in the Metropolis crowds. SUPERMAN V2 #75 (Jan., 1993), written and drawn by Dan Jurgens with Brett Breeding, was undeniably an event. The culmination of the first part of the "Death of Superman" storyline that ran through all four Superman titles over eleven months, this direct-sales edition came polybagged (Ugh, remember those?) with commemorative stamps, a Skybox trading card, a DAILY PLANET obituary, a promo poster, and a black armband. Heck, even I bought two copies so I could keep one unopened (the book sold over six million copies, many to speculators who bought dozens of copies, failing to understand that value comes from scarcity, and others to non-geeks who weren't savvy enough to understand that—like most comic book deaths—Superman's demise would not be permanent). The merits of the story will forever be debated. I thought this first arc was underdeveloped and overlong, but the Reign / Return parts were truly epic (as a gushing letter I had published in ACTION COMICS #694 attested).
