Not every interview happens in an “ideal” recording location - and it doesn’t need to! For this setup at Metcalfe’s Hilldale, we embraced the mid-day grocery store bustle as a backdrop to the interview. We chose a quieter corner of the store and used only our core equipment for a minimal yet effective setup. We brought in the Metcalf’s sign for a nice branded background. We got each interviewee hooked up with a wireless lav mic. When we’re not on production, we’re back in the office editing. For Wesley, editing is his favorite part of the job. The perfect production vehicle? Hands down, the Honda Odyssey (for us at least). In this shot, Patrick is loading up our gear after filming a conference for the American Parkinson’s Disease Association - Wisconsin Chapter. A huge part of our job is safely transporting equipment to and from the job site. Look closely, and you’ll see we’ve fitted the company car with a custom wooden insert. This helps us to slide equipment in and out easily while still having space to seat five people. We recently shared our smallest interview set up to date, but what about our most complex? For this interview, we filmed four speakers at once. Here’s how we did it: 📹We shot with three cameras - one wide shot with everyone in the frame and two side cameras with two speakers in the frame at once. 🎤Each speaker had a wireless LAV mic. Our smallest interview set-up yet! This interview, filmed for the Wisconsin Collaborative for Rural Graduate Medical Education @wcrgme, was an exciting challenge. Though the location had a great backdrop and audio capabilities, the space was a bit tight. Here’s how we problem solved: To accommodate the small room size, we used smaller light modifiers that took up less space. Wesley - balancing a gimbal like a pro. Before using an electronic gimbal, we must manually stabilize the camera on all three axes. This means adjusting the position, so when the gimbal isn’t turned on, the camera is level. And when it is on, this helps to not over-work the motor. After receiving a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, 10x10 owner and artist - Allana - began creating stickers to raise awareness for young adult cancer. Her creative efforts have since blossomed into a donation-based art shop selling items to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Allana reached out to Spoken Frame Media for help creating a video to enter the Bubblr's "Boost Your Future" contest, where contestants had a chance at winning up to $20,000. We collaborated with her on a one-minute video highlighting her story and her plans for the money. We chose a location with a nice backdrop and natural lighting. Plus, we filmed the video vertically, so it was well-suited to social media. This shot of some workplace b-roll was coming up a little too dark, so we wheeled in a battery-powered light to brighten up the space. By bouncing the light off the ceiling, we illuminated the scene and brought more exposure to the shot. So many factors can affect lighting, including location, time of day (or year), and the weather. What started as a workaround for pandemic event restrictions has become an exciting and accessible way to broadcast the Waterford Union High School Graduation. Since 2020, we’ve been brought back to live stream the event for friends and family who can’t make it in person. To get every angle, we film with four different cameras. We filmed part of Sam Ness’s music video for “Come For Grace” at the Free Congreatration Church in Sauk City. The church regularly lets artists record in their space and because of all the windows we were able to film primarily with beautiful natural light. ⠀ ⠀ @samnessmusic
