I worked this mural starting from the shadows, up to the warm/cold snow variations and finally placing the warmest and lightest lights. It is situated on the steep north slopes of Botev and Rusalka peaks and impresses with the abundance of diverse natural forms in it-rounded ridges, but also fearsome precipices, rocky crests, stepped cliffs, rocky slopes, deep valleys covered with centuries-old beech forests. Home in the mountains is a mural I painted on the highest hut in Stara planina, Bulgaria. The butterflies in the mural are the symbol of welcoming and open the gates of nature for visitors. The show the way and glow for the lost. The hut itself is placed in the central Balkan, just few hours from Botev peak-the highest on in Stara Planina. The region is home of many flora and fauna species, some of them are endemics for the area. The small Prunella collaris subalpinum is one of them. “Home in the mountains” is a mural I painted in the end 2023 at Pleven hut-the highest Stara Planina hut in Bulgaria. For me it’s very important how the mural lives in the environment, the way it correspondents with the landscape, where the light comes from and how the wall falls in shadow. Working in wintertime is a serious challenge not only because the weather is really unfriendly, but also because the day is shorter and the sun goes really lower on the horizon. For this mural I enjoyed the mournings in Stara planina for a month and a half, spending my time in painting and helping in the hut with some of the daily routines. “Promise of the new dawn” Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn,they say. The delicate rays of the last daylight, bring a sense of serenity and providing an unexplainable feeling. We are moved by the belief for better tomorrow. Thinking about that, brings moments of clarity and moments of unknown at the same time, all at once. I was briefed for a sunset scenery for the wall, so I enjoyed exploring the sunset colours and the way they could focus and lead the composition. Before starting the wall, I did several colour studies in acrylics, that I will show in the next few day.
