⚜️ ISSUE ⚜️ - 🎨 COUP DE COEUR ❤️ @victor_castillo_art 🇨🇱 began drawing obsessively at the age of five, inspired by the cartoons he saw on television, science fiction films, and the album covers present in his home, especially Pink Floyd’s The Wall. After attending art schools and disappointed with the academy, he began to take part in independent collectives in Santiago that were close to experimental art, creating installations that combined sculpture and video. In 2004, Víctor decided to emigrate to Barcelona, where he developed his renowned aesthetic, with references to comics, American animation from the 1950s and graffiti. Inspired by seeing Francisco Goya’s black paintings on a visit to the Museo del Prado, he began to incorporate elements of classical painting into his work. Collaborating with the legendary Iguapop Gallery until its closure in 2010, Castillo began to exhibit internationally with great success in museums, galleries and fairs around the world. Se da un lato la camera oscura restituisce la memoria e l’intensità dell’esperienza, le carte rimaste per mesi tra le vive creature del bosco si arricchiscono e cambiano, fino alla raccolta di febbraio quando assumono il ruolo di opera d’arte ed incorniciate entrano a pieno diritto a far parte della mostra insieme ai lavori a quattro mani dei due artisti. SEE INTO THE TREES by Niels Shoe Meulman e Devon Shoemaker April 26, 2024 / June 9, 2024 Text by Vittorio Parisi Nelle opere presentate in mostra, la natura si svela e si cela in bianco e nero all’occhio di Devon mentre dialoga con il gesto pittorico e calligrafico di Shoe, con il quale cogenera l’opera d’arte stessa. L’esperienza nel bosco del Cavazzone è originale ma non è nuova né per Devon, la cui ricerca sulla natura ha radici nelle prime esperienze fotografiche in accademia, né per Shoe, che è cresciuto artisticamente dipingendo spazi outdoor, ancorchè urbani. Come nelle città il graffito è una presenza effimera che cambia col trascorrere del tempo, così la natura interviene come ulteriore attore nelle opere realizzate nel bosco da Shoe, uno tra i più influenti graffiti artist europei. ———————————————————- In the artworks presented in the exhibition, nature unveils and conceals itself in black and white to Devon's eye as it engages in a dialogue with Shoe's painterly and calligraphic gesture, co-generating the artwork itself. The experience in the Cavazzone forest is original but not new for either Devon, whose exploration of nature has its roots in early photographic experiences in academia, or Shoe, who artistically grew by painting outdoor spaces, especially urban ones. Just as graffiti in ci- ties is an ephemeral presence that changes over time, nature acts as an additional player in the works created in the forest by Shoe, one of the most influential European graffiti artists.
