Some photos from the disassembly of FP3L’s covers before I started cleaning. Motor has to be removed to pull the cover off but I didn’t want to removed it completely so I ended up rigging it up off a 4x4 on a pair of 1000lb work horse and leaving it there while cleaning the machine. Noticed how dirty the electrical switches where yesterday. Started cleaning them in place. Then took the cover off. Thought I was looking at the edge of some sort of gasket before I pulled the switches out. Turns out it’s an oil soaked paper towel, with fine chips on it. Probably placed in there to keep the switches clean… Going to be replacing it with something less oil absorbent and maybe a little less flammable as well. I’d like to remove the cover on the side of the machine but that requires all the controls to be removed. We’ll see how complicated it is. It would be nearly impossible to figure out with out the manual. Things are proceeding quite fast, even if I didn't have a lot of time to spend assembling the new axis. The only hiccup I had is that a screw snapped on me, you can see it in the first picture, central cluster, the lower one to the right connecting the ball screw nut to the plate. Tried my hand with an extractor but nothing I could do, still 3 M5 are plenty strong. Today I got to shim the Z axis ball screw, assembled everything onto the X axis and aligned the new plate up with the machine bed. Yesterday I got to deal with the arduous task of joining 2 linear rails together. I had to use my drill press as a grinding machine to grind the mating surface. Still the job came out great. With the plate mounted whenever moving you cannot tell that the rail is made up of 2 pieces. In the last photo you can see the old (right one) Z axis main plate vs the new one! Air seeder repairs. This metering assembly had taken a beating after the bearing collapsed in one end, and the adjustment assembly pretty much just ate itself. I re-machined the metering wheel, adding some material that pressed on. New keyed shaft, threaded adjustment parts and keeper ring. Runs smooth as butter again. Finished cleaning some smaller parts for the scales on the FP3L. Had to straighten one part, cleaned up a couple screw heads and file a keyway that another part slides on to get everything working well and looking good. Probably gonna put some steel blue the screw heads. I received a nonworking lifting table that only had a working electric motor/valves/lifting cylinder, everything else was gone! I got some electrics from another discarded lift and began adapting it all together. The original lifting hydraulics had two 24V coils for lowering and the new electronics used 240V mains to power the coils, so I had to test out a few different coils before it was working as it should👍 My idea was to build a motorcycle lifting table and this was a good start… Its capacity is 1000 kg or 1 tons (the weight of a small car)!
