Ein Nandi aus Bronze, den ich aus Kathmandu mitgebracht habe. Der Nandistier ist der Begleiter und Beschützer des Gottes Shiva und auch sein Reittier. Als Bildnis steht er oft an der Schwelle zu den Heiligtümern Shivas oder er erscheint in seinem Gefolge. Our Queen of the Night Chandelier - inspired by The Queen of the Night cactus which blooms once a year and only at night, with a nod to the beguiling aria sung by the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute - this winding, rambling, free ranging chandelier was first created for Somerset House for Collect Art Fair in 2023. The hand forged-iron leaves are grouped in a languid fashion along the meandering forged stems and tendrils of dark bronze patina and deep dry russet flowers and leaf tips. Each chandelier is made to order in our London workshops.

Today we celebrate #InternationalSculptureDay ! We house some fantastic sculpted works at Ickworth, and our crowning glory is, of course, the towering Fury of Athamas. Commissioned by the 4th Earl of Bristol, the sculptor John Flaxman worked on this piece between 1790 and 1794. It helped launch Flaxman's career into a more academic and ambitious line of sculpture, but did not earn him a huge amount of money. The piece shows Athamas, driven mad by the furies, hurling the limp figure of his son, Learches, against the rocks. His wife, Ino, desperately reaches for them. The Fury of Athamas was part of Lord Bistol's art collection that was confiscated at Napoleon's behest in 1798, and brought to Paris at the end of his victorious Italian campaigns. The 4th Earl's son, Frederick, 1st Marquis of Bristol, later managed to buy back the piece from a Paris showroom. Athamas and his family finally arrived at Ickworth in the 1820s. Wczoraj odwiedziłam Forte dei Marmi, kurort znany głównie z przepychu i wszechobecnego bogactwa. Niby tak aczkolwiek dla mnie to po prostu czyste miasteczko pełne turystów (nawet przed i po sezonie) z kilkoma nietuzinkowymi miejscami. Bardzo podoba mi się placyk z drzewkami bonsai, widoki na góry, przejrzysta woda w morzu i oczywiście instalacja z brązu „Drzewo życia Ki” autorstwa @andrea_roggi_official ♥️. Niesamowita rzeźba w środku której widać góry i morze. Idealne do zrobienia magicznych zdjęć. To monumentalne Drzewo Życia – celebracja połączenia materii i ducha, nieba i ziemi – stanowi doskonałą syntezę poetyki Maestro Roggiego. WELCOME ! Tomorrow, Sunday April 28, 2pm-7pm, at the opening of my show at Galerie Vrijdag, 'galerie voor vrije hedendaagse kunst', Emiel Banningstraat 38, Antwerp (South). De film die het titelwerk voor deze tentoonstelling is, THE ANGELIC CONVERSATION, heb ik opgenomen in onze tuin. De bomen en mijn sculpturen zijn de personages. De film heeft de naam van Derek Jarmans film uit 1985. Een eerbetoon aan de kunstenaar. In Derek Jarmans ‘The Angelic Conversation’ zijn trage schokkende (super8) beelden van mensen die elkaar aanraken en naar elkaar verlangen verweven met liefdes-sonnetten van Shakespeare, de stem van Judi Dench en muziek van Coil. In de zomer van 2023 toen ik deze beelden en de film gemaakt heb, was Derek Jarman mijn metgezel, hoewel hij ondertussen reeds 30 jaar overleden is. Ik was al heel lang in zijn werk geïnteresseerd, maar vorige zomer heb ik me er echt in verdiept, in de avonden na een dag boetseren in het atelier. Ik kende reeds ‘Caravaggio’, ‘Blue’ en ‘The Garden’, maar deze zomer heb ik ook al zijn boeken gelezen en zijn schilderijen gezien. En ik ging op reis naar Dungeness op de kust in Zuid Engeland, om Prospect Cottage en the Garden die Derek Jarman daar creëerde in de laatste jaren van zijn leven te bezoeken. De tuin, waar de bomen staan: een denkplaats, een meditatieruimte en een tussenzone. De bomen verhuizen niet, ze groeien waar ze geplant of opgeschoten zijn. Voor ieder kind dat hier geboren werd hebben we een boom geplant in de tuin. Ik ga door de tuin naar het atelier waar ik mijn beelden boetseer in klei. Ik boetseer de kinderen, hun geliefden, hun vrienden en hun overleden voorouders. De sculpturen worden een gesprek met engelen. De bomen boetseer ik eromheen als een mantel. De sculpturen krijgen de namen van de bomen die hen omhullen: Birch, Oak, Red Beech, Maple, Walnut tree, Yew tree, Lime tree, Chestnut, Elder, Hazel, Hawthorn, Lilacs, Birch grove. #derekjarmansgarden #lovemytrees #sculpture #theangelicconversation #hagstones #performanceart

With only an apparent biography, it is introduced as a "vase with separate bands and animal motifs" as a burial device. Now, let's explore this jar, which is decorated with pen and black paint. Every audience can see the designs of nobility with their own vision, but why does the museum introduce this vase as a funeral device? In the third slide, I drew a line around the decorative symbols for the funeral. [ The seal of üz, Rhombus stamp, Mardab flower, Marghabi and the seal of three worlds] Let's examine these symbols together: The symbol is "üz", this symbol was known with different meanings in almost the whole geographical area of the earth in the ancient times. The seal of üz in the Proto-Turk civilizations (the Kengers or the ancient Turks) is a symbol of the star or the North Pole star. In the religious belief of these civilizations, the spirits must be visited by the star, the place where the goddess "Omai Anna" lives for immortality and rebirth into the world. This ancient symbol with different meanings can also be seen in the remains of Minoan, Apulia, Hittite, Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia civilizations. The swan bird symbolizes the return to life and the marsh flower symbolizes the birth after death. In the beliefs of Protroks, the rhombus symbol that can be seen under the handle of the jar is a symbol of the female body, which is called a symbol of childbirth. Three thick lines, one long and the other short on the left and right, symbolize the three worlds (before birth, the world of existence, and the world after death). For the reasons mentioned, the jar is related to the Thracian civilizations. I am so thrilled to have been selected to create a site specific installation at Wells Contemporary this year! My proposal, ‘Perceptual veil’ is based on the idea of a psychological boundary between the real world and our perceptions of it and the constructed narratives we tell ourselves (which often bear no resemblance to reality at all in some instances!) The idea for this piece was inspired by rood screens which would separate the clergy from lay people; as well as the lattice/fretwork screens found in mosques which separate gender. This project will be a challenge! But one that I have chosen (unlike some things life has been throwing at me recently!) and it is just the affirmation I need. I’m excited to get cracking! Happy International Sculpture Day!🎉 @intsculpturectr @intsculptureday We’re celebrating by sharing one of @simonhitchens sculptures that sits beautifully in the grounds of Close House: DUALITY LOOP Limestone, Stainless Steel 234 x 149 x 77cm “This sculpture is a subtle investigation to try and understand the essence of things we perceive as real and things which often remain unseen. I am focusing on how our imagination perceives the physical world, how the thought of an object or entity is different from the sight of it, and how that sight of it creates a memory of the object afterwards. I aim to make work that operates on the edge of perception, somewhere between the physical and metaphysical. A kind of exploration of the peripheral, like a memory or thought which the mind is searching to grasp. By isolating a section of the physical world and presenting that with its alter ego, this work presents us with a number of states or possibilities for that which is or could be, referencing presence and absence, unity or the possibility of a relationship that is, or was, once intimate and that could perhaps be so again. The sculpture operates in the tradition of minimalist sculpture, where a question has been asked, how much can be subtracted before the meaning evaporates.
