A Magazine 26 - Curated by Peter Do from @amagazinecuratedby At the helm of issue 26 is Peter Do, the young Vietnamese American designer who established his own line in 2018 & became creative director of Helmut Lang in 2023. Do has called upon his inner circle of friends, family & artistic collaborators to contribute cultural & creative content to these 200 pages. Exploring ideas of home, from his childhood in Biên Hòa, Vietnam to living in New York, rooted in the memories held of different places, people, objects & how one remembers, Do’s most intimate project to date invites readers to understand internal narratives. Minds from the Vietnamese diaspora, including poet & writer Ocean Vuong & Pulitzer Prize winner Viet Thanh Nguyen lend their voice to the issue; artist Anh Duong & art historian Nicolas Henni-Trinh Duc reflect upon the cultural heritage between East & West. Oscar nominee & cult director Trần Anh Hùng directs a series on wet markets in Ho Chi Minh City, alongside recipes handed down through relatives of chef Trisha Do, one of Do's closest friends. Xuan Hua photographs historical artefacts from Guimet Museum Nhu, contextualised by curator Chuong-Đài Võ. A sweeping portfolio by Vân-Nhi Nguyễn is photographed in Biên Hòa. Sensory mechanisms of memory are rendered through absence of sound, with a personal essay by NYT bestselling author Mary HK Choi accompanied by Mark Borthwick's archival imagery.
