After a few pesky obstacles I was able to successfully get my turbo KA to start and run on the new standalone EMS! This is another huge step done in the journey of this project car I got back in 2020. So a lot has happened since the last post. I’ve completely redone the exhaust on the BGT, swapping out the u bolt clamps for v band clamps was a great idea, I raised the exhaust up a bit so I have more clearance when driving, I actually have an exhaust tip on it now too. I don’t have any photos though so I’ll get some for the next post. I have the micro squirt in the car connected to the piece of 3/4 inch square bar behind the dash however it’s not wired up. I first want to get this running on strictly spark TRIGGERING off the pertronix unit and FIRING from a logic style vw 4 post wasted spark coil with the HS 4’s on it to make sure if I have any issues that I can narrow it to spark and not fiddle with the EFI just yet. That being said I’ve bought an NB Miata Throttlebody and have mocked up 50% of a somewhat wet manifold approach. Its current state is not shown in the pictures and is actually further along than it seems. For now, while triggering off of the pertronix, I want to get rid of the carbs asap since a 10 idle AFR isn’t the best just to have the car not ping or run a 15afr at cruise. Eventually I’ll machine what I’ve drawn in AutoCAD to adapt the CAS to the Dizzy hole. For now the car sits with no carbs but a much better exhaust and a mocked up ECU. Almost done, there's a few thin spots I'll fix with the next coat. When its dry I'll sand the sides and raised surfaces down to bare aluminum and maybe hit them with some Eagle1 wad polish. I know I said that I wasn't going to use the wrinkle finish paint on here but decided to try anyway and so far it's coming out pretty good. Especially since I'm going outside to paint in-between rain squalls lol. I really cannot wait til things dry out and warm up, having just the one sideskirt done on the passengers side is starting to get ridiculous. New year, new harness. While my first engine hardness was pretty damn good for a first attempt, we're upping the standard with this build. Bulkhead amphenol-style connectors, Deutsch connectors throughout, split loom wiring wrap. Merry Xmas everyone! A temporary reprieve from "product promotion" 😁 Moved away from the #megajolt programmable #ignition unit and over to #microsquirt (for #spark control only - still #carbureted ). Running a set of #gsxr #coils (pictured) and replaced the factory boots all together with a set I designed for the #4ag spark valley cover. Did away with the #edis module and can now predetermine correct dwell time (1.6 - 1.7ms for GSXR coils). Was getting a lot of ignition break up over time when running COPs w/ EDIS. Now I can finally install the dual LCD display cluster... good grief I'm slow 😮💨 Anyone planning to go a similar route with 2 wire motorcycle coils - be sure to use them from models that have #tci ignition and not #cdi .

Skeletonized Z31 dash is getting there. I wire wheeled and coated the thing with a rust cleaner and converter solution. I'm not sure if I wanna use filler primer or just go straight to self-etching cuz its not like most of what I did is going to be visible in the car anyway. I may need a pair of dash pods, possibly a set of vents and definitely gonna need a cloth dashboard cover (that I will install with self-tapping screws or I'll come up with a hook and eyelet method) but ill cross that bridge when I get to it. Theta development is well underway, with the first engine planned to be running before new year. Pictured is the mockup tuning software written in Python using the Tkinter library (some additional elements were custom made using Canvas), with a backend serial manager port to transfer data to and from Theta. Well that's one sideskirt done..mostly lol. I need double sided mounting tape and a few more holes drilled to finish the little trim panel in the back. It's not perfect but nothing about this car is "perfect" so it fits the theme just fine for now lol. Still gotta Goof Off some adhesive on that rear wheel arch and I need to remove and/or treat a few rust spots on and behind the fender so I can throw some Duplicolor 326 over the spots until I can get around to having the car resprayed..someday.
