Winter morning light in the dining room. Every single thing in this photo was either found, thrifted, sourced, or curated with meaning. There's something special to me about a "found" style- the stories layered with stories, the history and texture, the quality of the items and the thought that these pieces are part of something bigger than an advertising campaign or an "influenced link." Their character, their story- it changes everything. This sideboard is one of my favorite estate sale purchases ever from @southernrevivalestatesales (from in town, no less!) and the mirror also came from one of their estate sales in Ellis County. The gilt frame, and the middle candlesticks came from the craziest adventure ever to source from an estate in the middle of Johnson County, in a warehouse, in the ice storm two years ago that shut down DFW. I spent two hours getting there because of the ice, but ooooh what a treasure trove it was- even if there was no heat in the warehouse. Treasures from that adventure can be found all over our house. The black candlesticks are from our wedding, and the silver candlesticks are a gift from a good friend who used to own an antique store. The sconces were ones I fell in love with immediately from @diamondeinteriors, but waited a year to purchase for various reasons. The day I brought them home I KNEW they were perfect for this space and I'm madly in love with them still. The green vase is from a trip to Waco on my 30th birthday, scooped up from #thelittleshoponbosque @magnolia and the beautiful stems in it are from @thedovesnest last fall. It's been a bit quiet over here- left you hanging with the addition of the chickens to the household. Long story short October passed by in a blur of weekends, and weekdays, away from the @minimodernvictorian and we're just now coming up for air. We spent a fantastic weekend as auditors for the @missdallaspageant and then turned around a few days later and left for our anniversary trip to our beloved Scotland. The morning we got back, I was hit with blinding sickness, and it put both me and Grayson out of commission for a solid week. Honestly we're still recovering, but there's only so much anxiety I can endure thinking of undone things at work and on this house, so here we are! More work is slated to happen this weekend in the bathroom, specifically finishing painting the water closet so we can be back to a two-toilet household! We also desperately need to mow and trim our yard (sorry neighbors!) and I'm hopeful that I'll figure out a mobile chicken fence to let the girls get some good greens before I mow them all down! Three years in the making and we finally have a dining room couch! We salvaged a torn, yellow tufted vintage couch three years ago of FB marketplace with this dream, and it took us a long time to get started on the project, not to mention figure out how to increase the height enough for it to be dining appropriate. It's been gilded by hand, and then the last two weeks it was sent off to be professionally upholstered (I gave up the dream of doing it myself, too many unfinished projects). The tufting removed, and new foam, backing, and all new upholstery that should fit into our long term vision for the dining room. Helen’s grandparents had an amazing collection of beautiful Victorian furniture in their home. When her granny Jean moved into a care home and the much loved old family house was sold earlier this year we were pleased to be able to rehome some of the lovely pieces. In particular this amazing (and amazingly HUGE- swipe to see it with 6ft3 Dom for scale) cabinet that has always been a favourite of Helen’s. We never thought we’d live in a house large enough to accommodate it! It was an anxious day as we weren’t sure it would fit through the door, but we couldn’t be more delighted now it’s in.
