2 years ago today, at this time, Selcuk dropped me off at Stony Brook Hospital. We were both so excited , scared, and everything in between; because of Covid, he was not allowed inside. But I was getting a Kidney! I am so grateful to the @Stony Brook Dialysis Center and Stony Brook Kidney Transplant Clinic , all of my amazing nurses, Dr. Darris, and all who helped me get here. You joined a family full of energy and already moving at sometimes insane speed and never wavered. Instead, you immediately added another high energy, strong and joyful personality that fit about as perfect as a piece finishing a puzzle. You’re constantly on an adventure, exploring NON STOP that sometimes makes even your untamed brother’s ferocity seem ordinary… no easy task. A fiesty daredevil who seems to fear nothing outside of maybe a few talking stuffies (in time) You are probably the happiest person I’ve ever encountered which has helped me to lighten up and enjoy the little things… it’s impossible not to smile and feel the weight disappear when you greet me at the door, no matter how tough some days are for me. Happiest of 18th Birthdays to Stokes!! There are just a few more minutes left in the day- but getting home late from a swim meet, eating a quick dinner and then having cake and ice cream with the family singing off key makes for a full day. To know Stokes is to love him. In life you get to interact with a lot of different kinds of people. Stokes is the type of person you can’t help but to watch and admire. A lot of kids his age are so tangled up in what’s cool and what’s not or what other people think- Stokes doesn’t play by those rules. He marches to a beat of his own and he just pulls it off. Stokes is hilarious, witty, fun to be around, athletic, driven in things he deems important, coachable, caring, thoughtful, and polite. Stokes has a big heart under all those muscles. I have the amazing job of being his mom, teacher, and coach and getting to watch him grow, both figuratively and literally over the past 18 years, but also the last 4 as a high schooler where personality is cemented - he makes me so proud. People light up when he walks into rooms with his devilish grin, teachers talk about how much they enjoyed working with him in class. Coaches say how much he brings to teams he is on with his personality and work ethic. Stokes is just a blessing to know and love. Stokes, 18 years! You are thriving. I hope you know how much you mean to me. I could never in a post, or in a selection of 10 pictures, capture all of your quirks and personality. I hope that the little boy who loves to explore, and dream up huge dreams, and asks the most random questions and tells the tallest tall tales never leaves you.
