Huge shoutout to @newenglandfounders for giving me the task to create a team concept for you! This basketball team proposal, based in Hartford, Connecticut and Springfield, Massachusetts was a lot of fun to do! The name, "New England Founders" is a reference to the fact that basketball was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts, by Dr. James Naismith in 1891. The logo I came up with was an old-timey basketball inside a peach bucket. Peach buckets were used instead of nets when basketball was first invented. For the colour palette, I went with a basic red, white, and blue colour combination. As for the jerseys, I decided to give them an old-timey style by including pin-stripes combined with Dagger Square font, in order to blend the old with the new. With the alternative jersey, I integrated the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame building (located in Springfield) into the jersey. With this colour scheme, I incorporated sun beams in order to exemplify the museum. I added the stars to give it a more patriotic nod. Lastly, the mascot is just a cartoonish version of Dr. Naismith himself. His jersey features the numbers 413 and 860, the area codes of Springfield, Massachusetts and Hartford, Connecticut. This mascot would bring fun and joy to children and fans of ALL ages. Lately, I have been coming up with multiple concepts for potential NBA expansion cities. The latest in this series was for San Diego. The name I came up with was the "San Diego Sea Dogs." A "sea dog" is nautical slang for an old, experienced sailor. I felt that this name fit well for San Diego, a seaport city in Southern California, known for its maritime history, natural beauty, and vibrant culture. For the logo, I decided to incorporate a basketball within a ship's wheel in order to convey the message of San Diego's nautical culture. As for the colour scheme, I decided to use a combination of Spanish orange and sea green. Spanish orange represents the fact San Diego was once a Spanish colony, and the sea green compliments the city's nautical history. Hey everyone, since the NBA media rights deal might get done very soon. And also the NBA will be expanding very soon. I decided to draw some uniform concepts for when the Seattle Supersonics come back to Seattle. 1st section is the normal uniforms using the 1975 design and colors and logo. And then 2nd section is the 1975 uniform design but with the colors from the 90s and serves as a tribute to the 1996 Sonics team. As many of you are probably aware, one of the major cities that the NBA has been considering expanding to, is Las Vegas, Nevada. I took it upon myself to create a brand for a potential NBA expansion franchise for this up-and-coming sports city. Las Vegas a city well-known for its gaming culture, is often used as the backdrop for many great films including Ocean's Eleven, Diamonds are Forever, The Hangover, Last Vegas, and many others! A great name for this team in my opinion was the "Las Vegas Blackjacks." A name that encapsulates the city's gaming scene and casino culture. The logo itself is a black casino chip with a basketball in the middle. The colour scheme used was black, white, and deep red. These colours perfectly encapsulate the aesthetic that many people associate with Las Vegas. In addition, I added the four card symbols (heart, club, diamond, and spade) on the jersey's stripes. As a jersey sponsor, I thought that Las Vegas Sands made the most sense and fit well on the jerseys. The mascot is a jackrabbit, named "Jackpot." Jackrabbits are an animal found throughout the desert regions of the western United States including the Mojave Desert (where Vegas is located). His name "Jackpot" includes the name "Jack" AND is a common buzzword that many people associate with Las Vegas. In regards to my basketball team, the "Vancouver Mammoths," I knew that designing the jerseys was one of the most important aspects of the team's identity. The three main jerseys that I needed to focus on were (left to right) the icon jersey, the association jersey, and the statement jersey. The icon jersey (aka, the home jersey) needed to be the main coloured jersey, and of course, I went with the team's iconic bright royal blue, with navy and teal accents. The association jersey (aka the away jersey) needed to be predominantly white, while including the various accents of the other colours. Lastly, the statement jerseys needed to be something different from the other two. The alternative jersey takes a bold and unique approach by featuring an icy teal base. The navy blue silhouette cityscape of Vancouver on the jersey celebrates the team’s connection to the city, fostering a sense of pride and community. The darker turquoise background depicting the North Shore Mountains in the distance adds depth and drama, creating a visually stunning and iconic jersey that pays homage to the team’s home and its natural surroundings. Additionally, I included a jersey sponsor, Vancity, a Vancouver-based financial institution, whose red logo provides a striking contrast to the jersey’s colors. Expansion talk. Featuring the best candidates to receive an NBA team (in no particular order). NBA expansion was briefly back in the news as Adam Silver continues to drop hints that it’s on the horizon. The NBA commissioner has made it very clear the new NBA media deal is priority #1, which means expansion will have to wait until at least 2025. That doesn’t mean potential investors aren’t positioning themselves to make a run at acquiring a team in the very near future - including investors who want a team in Montreal and Vancouver, whom Silver mentioned over a broadcast to have interest in the NBA. My opinion? I think it’s super obvious Seattle is the best spot. No real reason against it, especially with a newly renovated arena and an awesome basketball environment in that corner of the US. Beyond a Supersonics return, it’d be awesome to see either Mexico City or Montreal get the hypothetical 32nd team. If the logistics of more international basketball can be ironed out, either of those cities would be a great addition to the NBA. All of the other places I’m pretty neutral on - except for Vegas. To be quite frank, I want nothing to do with Vegas. I know fans are basically pencilling in a new team in Sin City, but I would really dislike that honestly. I don’t think it makes sense for the NBA either. Keep Vegas as the fun neutral-site area with the IST, and don’t put a team in that weak TV market. NBA Expansion: México Murciélagos Murciélagos or Bats represents the team, this mascot is both unused on a pro level, and sounds smooth when said in unison with Mexico. I thought it was important to use a Spanish name to represent the team so that fans could get behind it. The colors are Black, green and red, another unused color scheme, and is reminiscent of the Mexican flag. The major draw to Mexico is the fact that Mexico City is so large, and the market for pro sports (outside of soccer) is untapped.
