ZOE & DON 🤍💛💜 These two have been together for 14 years! For 10 of those lovely years they have been engaged so it was such a pleasure to be there when they tied the knot for their elopement with their son and daughter and their close friends. They envisaged a nice, relaxed summers afternoon just having fun with the kids and I think they had exactly that! The weather didn’t play very nice in the morning but it cleared up shortly after the registry office and they were able to have some drinks and play some games in a field near Coombe Cellars which they visit on a regular basis with their dog. It was so wonderful to be part of this day. How are your weekends going?! ☺️ In terms of work, I’m looking ahead to next week where I’ll be sorting out lots of pre wedding sessions, like Victoria and Liam here who were an absolute ray of sunshine over on Dartmoor! I can’t wait for 2022! 🌟 Thank you to all of you who have got in touch with me recently! I have been hit with an influx of enquiries for 2023 weddings and I am loving catching up with all of my 2022 couples to book your pre wedding sessions in too! So many lovely ideas and lots of talk of bringing your doggos too (you know I’m always a fan of that!) I’m not going to lie, a few weeks ago I felt quite burnt out. It’s partly why I stepped away. I had nothing more to give here and to be honest I was also quite homesick. Usually the amount of emails I’ve had today, plus the editing I’ve been beavering away at would’ve overwhelmed me enough to want to disappear… But something’s shifted now. Speaking with you all has just driven me even more! I’m so excited to see what this year has to offer. I’m grateful that it has less weddings than 2021 (which had 45 😅) but equally grateful I’ve even been able to book 30 odd for this year - considering that this is going to be my first year living in Devon. Moving your life and business away from everything you knew is no easy task, so I feel very thankful that I’ve been welcomed into the south west and that so many of you have chosen me to document your wedding days. 💜 I still have a love hate relationship with social media and using it for work (I’m often hiding on my dog account now instead!) but I feel very, very fortunate to have been able to connect with so many lovely people here. Faces of pure joy. 🥰 On my editing screen at the moment are the lovely Lily and Alex, who wed in the little village hall close to her grandmother’s old house. It was a beautiful day both physically and in terms of the moments that unfolded, and looking back on the photos brings me so much happiness. These two had infectious energy and there were just so many sweet moments throughout the day that I’m so glad I got to witness and document. 🥰 I’m taking my time getting each wedding right, curating the day the best I can, to help you relive it forever. Being a wedding photographer is a mix of things. From the obvious fact that you’re documenting a wedding unfold, to building a relationship with your couple and their family and friends, to predicting moments (less about luck and more about watching like a hawk!), and being ready to capture them. Or looking for good light and angles, making people feel comfortable around you, and finally then curating the images in an order that tells the story the best. Let’s talk about your wedding party people! ⭐️ I’m dedicating this post to all of these wonderful people, just a very small handful of the incredible wedding parties I’ve had the fortune to work with this year. Bridesmaids, groomsmen, bridesmen, grooms women, so on and so forth. These people are usually your go-to’s, your long time friends, family, or people you just couldn’t be without on your wedding day. And they also happen to be some of my favourite people at a wedding, too! 🥰 When I turn up at a wedding, I probably don’t know anyone other than my couple… which is why these beautiful humans are so important! So often you help me find people I need, organise group shots, offer a hand with anything if I need it, and in a weird kind of way, I always find that I end up getting on super well with you all, and for that I’m so grateful! People make the world go around. 🌍 Things feel a bit uncertain at the moment, don’t they? We’ve spent almost two years in absolute turmoil. Allowed to spend time with those we love. Then having it taken away from us imminently. Protecting one another the best we can, to then find out not everyone has the same interests. It’s left me feeling a bit glum, so today I decided to revisit a wedding which was entirely brought together by a sheer team of wonderful humans. No wedding planners or coordinators. Just friends, family, and genuinely good hearted humans… because I think that’s what we need to see right now. 💜 Lily and Harry’s gorgeous back garden wedding was a testament to what can happen when you collectively work your socks off. These two had to plan their wedding from across the pond, and it was touch and go as to whether it could go ahead due to the state of the planet, but my goodness, if ever there is a day that shows the good hearted nature of humans, it’s this one. Everyone pulled together to make it happen, and they pulled it off. 🙌🏻 In times like these, we need to dwell less on the things out of our control and focus on what we can do. Focus on the good times and on what can and will be if you persevere. My job, like those of many others in our industry, has been full of worry for nearly two years. I can finally see the end of my editing list. 🙌🏻 I remember when I took these photographs. It was earlier this year. I’d just announced that I’d be moving to Devon, I’d had a new website built, and I was super excited to get stuck into a busy year of photographing weddings… and having the freedom to be creative once more. 💜 This shoot summed up all of those things. We shot it in Woolacombe, I worked with the most talented local people, and it gave me an insight into what being a Devon based photographer might look like. Little did I know how much hard work I had ahead of me, but I remember the sheer excitement and nervousness I felt at this time. This shoot marked the start of what was going to be an unreal year. Here I am, months later, now based in Devon, reflecting on how much I’ve achieved, and finally able to see the end of my editing list after shooting 45 weddings since that day. 🙌🏻 I guess the point of this post is to celebrate my own achievements. Everyone in the wedding industry has had a busy, challenging year, and so many of us are self employed. We have to be our own cheerleaders! Gone are the days of having to trundle into town and stick your USB into one of the printing machines (I say this as someone who used to work on a photo counter!). Let’s go to the beach 🏖 Would you go to the beach on your wedding day? Since moving to Devon, it’s something so many of my couples have mentioned doing, and I am SO down for it. If you can nestle yourself into my little VW polo I’ll drive you to the beach for some photos! 🥰 For Sophie and Jamie, heading to the beach was really important. Summer memories. 🥰 What a lovely weekend I’ve had off! This weekend I’ve spent time totally out of the office (which is currently my sofa whilst I wait to sort out my actual office!), and have been exploring North Devon with Jack and our potential rescue lab Wilson. We have had such a lovely time and honestly it has been so freeing to get out in the outdoors, take in some fresh air and to just relax. 💜 This evening I’ve been thinking back to some of the most incredible weddings I’ve had the fortune to photograph, including Lily and Alex’s gorgeous DIY day in Newton Abbot. With Lily wearing her grandmother’s wedding dress, which she had altered, barefoot on the red south Devon sand, and just so, so much joy and sunshine, it is definitely one to remember! 💜 This week I’ll be splitting my time between getting to know Wilson better (he’s a rescue dog who requires a little more patience and time than other dogs, so we don’t get to take him home just yet!) and also getting through my editing. Balance is definitely key this time of year. Happy wedding day! 🥰 Chloe and Charlotte make their vows to one another today and I’m so excited for them. We met up in July for their pre wedding session and they were so bubbly and easy to get along with. It felt like I had known them a long time - until I realised that they are in fact one of my longest booking couples! Oh how beautiful these two are. 💜 Next up on my editing screen are the gorgeous Lizzie and Tom, who wed at Shortmead House in Biggleswade back in July. They are such a sweet, laid back couple and editing their photographs is an absolute joy! 😻 As much as I’d like to have gotten my couples galleries back to them within a week or two (the dream!) it has been lovely returning to editing weddings with a bit of a time gap since shooting them. Moments I’d shot on the day become memories. In fact I forgot a lot of what I had taken! Which reinstates why our jobs are so important. The moments we document help to put together a visual realisation of what unfolded on the day. They help you remember moments, conversations, sounds, smells… I’ve always thought of them like a patchwork of moments helping to tell a story. Might sound cliché, but it’s literally why we do what we do! It feels really wonderful to open up each catalogue of images again and remember the day through the photographs. Weddings take a team. 🥰 As I finish up editing the gorgeous Suzanne and Troy’s wedding, it’s made me realise just how many incredible people weddings need. How much everything is a team effort. How we all pull together with a common goal: to make the day the best it can be for our couple. 💜 Suzanne and Troy hired an immense team of suppliers for their wedding. I have tagged all of them I hope! 🤞🏻 They had been together for over 21 years and put absolutely everything into this day, with suppliers driving across the country to make it happen. It was really overwhelming and wonderful to be a part of a day that involved so many people, and it made me reflect upon this year and a bit. Undeniably the wedding industry has been dragged through a hedge backwards since Covid began, as have all industries. I know of many suppliers who have had to close, but for those of us who have held on by a bootlace, we are still here, giving 110% despite how exhausting this year has been. I think I speak for all of us when I say we are glad to have survived. And it’s thanks to people like Suzanne and Troy for helping us to continue to provide to our couples and to give our best. When I told Suzanne that my laptop had broken mid editing, she was totally chilled and said it wasn’t a problem, and wished me well with my move to Devon. They are so selfless and kind, and have supported so many of us, not just through booking us but by being genuinely wonderful people. And it means the world. This wedding took a literal team to bring to life - including Suzanne and Troy who had the most incredible vision for this day - and I think we pulled it off. I just feel very grateful to be a part of a community who continue to show up, give their best and work as hard as they can despite being exhausted. Blue hour moments 🌙 These ladies were so much fun and their day was a perfect reflection of them both. They did so many beautiful things too, some of which stand out to me here… from getting ready together, to doing a first look not just with their parents but with each other, to writing their very own vows and promises, wed by Allison’s cousin, doing couple photos before they got married, enjoying a fajita evening, made entirely by them with banquet tables so that they could all sit together, and then going for some more photos as the sun had set over the south Devon hills. Everything was just sublime and so very individual to them. 🥰 I really do love the versatility of weddings, and of each couple. You never quite know how the day will pan out, what will happen or how everything will look. As much as you can prepare over zoom calls and Pinterest boards, every time it is like a surprise when you get there, and it’s one of the things I love most about what I do. The lack of any expectation always leads to each wedding going above and beyond my expectations. The most glorious day. 🥰 When I said I had lots more frames to share from Lily and Alex’s wedding in Newton Abbot on Saturday, I meant it. This day was full of so much happiness and genuine emotion that it is quite impossible to sum up in a few frames… From having the privilege to photograph Lily’s sisters ashes in her flatlays, to Alex writing a surprise song for Lily as part of his speech and her crying her eyes out, to the happiest ‘we just said our vows!!’ faces. To exploring the same coastline we shot their engagement photos at, Prosecco in hand… the entire day was just beautiful and I feel very grateful to have been a part of it. 🥰 This year has been intense in all senses of the word. Shooting 40+ weddings between April and November. A few mental breakdowns. A LOT of happiness. A few emotional tears. Connections with new and old people, some turning into friends. Miles and miles in my little vw polo. Hours spent alone, introverted, and the best days spent with the best people. Sun, rain, hail. Tides in. Tides out. Luxe weddings. Boho weddings. DIY weddings. Lily and Alex. Where do I begin? 🥺💜 These two humans have the purest hearts and the most genuine intentions and their wedding day yesterday in Newton Abbot was the most wonderful day. Despite all that they have been through, they have the biggest smiles and hearts and they are honestly rays of sunshine. 🌞 It truly is the biggest privilege to get to meet people like Lily and Alex. Furthermore to then document the most magical day and to be welcomed into a group of family and friends as if you’re part of it all, not just ‘a supplier.’ I genuinely couldn’t ask for more. 💜 There are always couples that I work with who are just on precisely the same wavelength as me; and these two are just that. I genuinely believe the universe points people in our direction for a reason. It’s an absolute minefield! The size that you pick up in one shop could be bigger or smaller than what you’d pick up in another. It doesn’t mean you’ve gained or lost that much weight within hours or days even. Don’t stress or get caught up in thinking it’s you. Some shops are renowned for small sizing - they don’t make their size clothes to the standard measurements. In some shops you’ll find the material has absolutely no give, therefore you need a bigger size to feel comfortable. If something doesn’t fit you in your normal size then don’t stress, think about it rationally. Ignore the number on the label - it does not define you. No-one will know the number on the label unless you tell them. Being able to let go of that is another step in the right direction to self love. 🥰

Say YES to wearing clothes that make you happy and flatter your shape! I’m so tired of hearing on day time TV shows “this is great- hides a multitude of sins”. It’s a big NO from me. It’s sending a message that we should hide away all our lumps and bumps, rather than wearing clothes to flatter our shape. It’s just a simple flip of words, words that are encouraging and positive.
