All steel Aero 35.5 Seven Seas with a Unitas 6326, a less bridged 6325 which is the Wermachtswerk movement, loosely based on the original pocket watch 431 which is on the left in figure four, with the 6235/6236 on the right. Based on the later movement I'd date this to the sixties but the brand eludes me, there was an Aero pocket watch company that may have dabbled in wristwatches but remain elusive. As a frequent customer I can reccomend always checking their site for a model you may be considering partly because they consistently represent the best value on the vintage market and partly because of the faultless customer service. They've grown too and the stock is now so enormous that going through it all is quite the task. Its actually easier to search by brand as every "details" you click it punts you back out at the top of the list, not where you were, necessitating ALOT of scrolling........But thats it for bitching if you have contact or complaint you get straight thro to Scott the skipper of this vintage galleon, and he sorts you straight out, I cant reccomend enough. Very Impressive 34 ml Fifties Benrus Automatic Monobloc. Gold plated market find watch with flared lugs and the most amazing applique dial, the 12 marker & the date frame both stand out as does the clean face and slim lumed hands. The back claims to be waterproof and the watch loads thro the crystal. Benrus usually used AS movements but were assembled in the USA, the 3021 is a refrence. Possibly to the three star of the model and 1921 was the companys founding year, in New York. Like any responsible adult I've tried hard to take an interest in Grand Seiko, but minimal design and a mild interest in their hi beat movements is mitigated by endless dial iterations of the view from the designers window (tm @watch__papi )as well as a pearl clutching refusal to countenence anything so vulgar as lume. Plus the always present Power Reserve disfiguration, a design descision of such startling cretinism that you wonder if the lost art of seppuku might plausibly make a comeback at Seiko. Oh yeah then theres the Lexus issue....... But, look at that, Grand Seiko might have lost their tiny minds, a gmt 200 m Chrono in 45 (or so) glorious slash cut millimeteres "limited"/not limited to 800💀 Its a huge Godzilla of a watch thats as ugly as a Gorgons genitals but it sure has character.... Oh yeah, Tag did a nice Carrera, Zenith did a spud ugly dive watch that is shiny like a barracuda lure and the Nautalis now has a denim strap thats really leather, Gadzooks Patek Phillipe with this strap you are really spoiling us. Aquastar Benthos Dive Timer. Aquastar & @ Le Joux Perret have produced the most exiting dive watch of 2024. As a padi diver and a Chronograph guy I've always loved the Brietling slowtimer, the Aquastar Benthos and even the Omega Chronostop as cool tool chronos, grails for me really considering the prices. When Brietling talked up the Slowtimer as the inspiration for the new Superocean range I don't think I was the only nerd dissapointed to find it was a styling exercise. Similarly the Aquastar re-issue was another dissapointment, one that I complained about at the time. I've always loved Aquastar and have bid on vintage models before but they and the modern iteration run into the Tudor problem, i.e. at about £3Gs why wouldn't I buy a Tudor? After a coupla days I think I know why these straps aren't on the Unimatic web site anymore. They are Fluffmasters. Also so stiff as to be actually uncomfortable. Also, and this is a killer, it only has one keeper, meaning the spare strap sticks out or bursts free. More #unimatic love with a new rubber strap from Italy 🇮🇹 and less than £50 which is nice. Not however a completely fluff free experience but not a dusty brother generally. Stiffer than a bill at the Ritz tho, and came with a spare buckle for an extension I don't have🤷♂️ Main thing is its cooler than a gin sling with bevelled edges a'la Sinn and bruisingly big branding on the otherwise slab like half centimetre of rubber. Very #tacticool Also tapers are for tropics and poodlefakers, this stays chunky to the bottom of the glass. Gotta say it makes me feel even cooler, and Im a very low temperature dude...... "Just" an Ingersoll Pin Pallet pocket watch. But, Ingersoll, founded in 1882 like Seiko, and like Seiko they did more to democratise horology than almost anyone else. Ingersolls history, on both sides of the Atlantic is so convoluted as to be ridiculous, owning, and being owned by Waterbury Clocks from Waterbury Conneticut as well as buying the New England Watch Company...from Waterbury Conneticut, as well as becoming insolvent more than once, sometimes more than once in a decade. Despite these difficulties they produced in 1896 the first $1 watch The Yankee, bringing mass produced but reliable timekeeping to the masses for the very first time, Eight thousand watches a day were being produced by Waterbury who supplied the movement parts to the British arm of the company in 1905, producing The Crown, a watch that only cost five Shillings when that was the dollar rate. They went on to make one of the first Radium watches with the Radiolite in 1917, just before the end of the war. In the thirties they innovated with the first Mickey Mouse watch going on to produce a slew of Disney, Marvel and character watches. Latterly they joined Smiths at The Anglo Celtic group (when Waterbury bacame Timex, keeping up? Good!) and were eventually sold to a Hong Kong based equity group who are now based in Austria? As @perezcope will tell ya, Rolex & Blancpain aren't the only marketing departments built on a foundation of lies & shinola, indeed even the Humble Vostocks tale of brute force engineering by Novokov & Belov, breathlessly recounted by @hodinkee: leading to the famous ring back case and the advantages conferred by this in terms of pressure resistance and loss of shearing forces on gaskets. This is a lovely story & total nonsense. Blancpain already had a ring case back in... 1957, which is bad news both for their '53 narrative and Vostocks field engineering BS. 10 years later when the patent had lapsed the first Amphibia was released. Tbf the Patent Office soon told Rolex to sod off, reasoning that putting a thread on a caseback was not innovative enough to be patantable and thus Blancpain didn't extend beyond the five year "More Money Please " patent phase. So the Unimatic U5 A brand new model case and well, the dial holds true to @Unimatics core modernist minimal values. A slimmer 36ml the 5 comes with a sensible one and a silly one which is of course, a little more expensive. A sort of hipster tax. So far so Italian. I was I think, asked to the launch but at the time flying to Italy for a few drinks seemed excessive.... This one features a tapered calf leather strap which I think is also new. I spent an hour levering this orange endlink rubber on to my U1 and I hate it. 😂 Shockingly expensive OEM rubber is on the way mind. Sekonda Dive Potato, on a AliX rubber rally Fluffmaster (tm) as well as a vintage leather punch. The watch is biggish 43.5 at it's narrow point but wears like a shiny 45, lug to lug is 47.3 & it's 14.7mm thicc. Still 200m and a screw down crown means its more likely to survive a dive than anything from Ali, and at £120 new about the same price. No bezel pip but a solid action and the whole piece feels solid and serious, the red accents are an error as they dissapear under water and the chrono buttons are surface only but the only real problem is I can't reset the elapsed mins at 3 because I've no idea which Japanese Quartz movement this is.....looks solid tho. Salvest Skindiver. @simon_stalenhag Such a pretty little watch with an internal cyclops in the domed glass, its not acrylic anyway. the cyclops is purely decorative😂 The H case is quite complex especially the chunky crown guards. The lugs turn down but between them the good plating has been applied to unfinished metal. Despite this & its age theres no flaking or wear even with dings & scratches, the friction bezel stays at twelve all day which is more than I can say for my King Seiko... Salvest Vintage Skindiver Very pleasing plated but tidy 38ml without the push pull crown or guards, so huge for the time late sixties "skindiver" with no specific water resistant claims anywhere not even on the screw down caseback. It has a bi-directional friction bezel that feels new but no lume pip, the dial & hands though are lumed in a pleasing green. Salvest were West German but short -lived (1940-1988) chiefly famous for funky fashion forward alarm clocks with solid internals, the short lived watch experimant began in '54 and they stopped production in '77, it sez here but I see 1980 models offered online. This is their most (only) collectable model the Datomatic, written on the dial it means just that, the date is automatic😂 But the watch was really made by a French company Cattin (who's own watch brand was the better known Mortima) and has their C66 manual 17 jewel movement, I think; I can't actually open the bugger. Lets talk about design....... With all due respect to the guys @studio.underd0g I think this is a miss-step. Bear with me and I'll explain. The first two watches, the Strawberry and the Watermelon had a cohesive design where the "fun" elements like the colours and pip indecies had a point and theme that made sense and furthermore could actually be ignored or at least disgarded as all the functional elements of a useful watch were present, the excellence of design, humour, colour and clarity were woven into an excellent whole. The new Pink Lemonade field watch is again an excellent design whose translucent dial and colour would stand alone without the beverage based nomenclature which does cleverly & playfully, refrence those elements & of course add to the (delicious) whole. And now let us attend the Pizza Party, the food element of the dial consists of toppings of various types, including Hawaiin (sp?) and pepperoni, not applied artfully as tiny applique or print indecies but distributed by shotgun across the dial at random. The familiar bumpy dial is present in a burnt orange shade that surely needs to be re visited without the mushrooms and a sort of blair witch/ wonky gunsight grooves to make up for their lack. Other than an olive at 2 which kinda works....My point is this looks like the concept led the design. The food element is tacked on, literally. Adds nothing and its removal would only improve the watch, The cart before the horse as it were, and the humour is Party!! There is no lack of playfull-ness here but no wit. A new project, not every day you come across a great movement without a case but @a.1.watch and I have big plans #omegamod Omega 1030 movement no doubt stripped from a gold case, further evidenced by the most bitch basic dial I've ever seen on an Omega, probobly a Geneve case. The 1030 (74-84) itself is a weird movement converted from an automatic to mechanical by removing the rotor and auto gear while adding a fake bridge to hide the hole.....Its a quickset hacking movement with indirectly driven second hand and min hand, it sez here.
