Goals come with challenges, and there is no shame in failing to meet them unless you learn nothing along the way. What we hope happens is that the failure to attain goals forces athletes to assess the reasons why and make the necessary adjustments. Gil Ash, an NSCA Level III instructor and OSP Shooting School owner, reminds us that skill development is simply deliberate repetition, failure, correction and more repetition. “Goal setting is a necessity if you want to get better at anything, but failure is inevitable, and reflection on that failure is how new goals are made,” says Ash. In other words, athletes who come up short of their goals should focus on the hindrance, not the goal. On the other hand, if goals are routinely being met, maybe it’s time to bump them up a little. Back to back weeks full of non-stop surf competition. After last weekend, I didn’t really set goals for @nssasurf East Coast Championship, I just knew I wanted to make a final. I ended up making 3 finals - Open U10 Boys, Explorer Mini Grom, and somehow made it thru Jr Airshow semis to make the final! Ended up with an East Coast Title for u10 boys 🏆 ! Runner up in Explorer Mini Grom 🥈. Didn’t complete an air in the air show final, but was stoked my bro @owenanthony2010 took the win with two solid completions in strong offshore wins! Congrats O! Event #2 was tough for our little grommet. He took elimination pretty hard, but some reflection as well as some kind words from @hendrixshaw_ gave Atticus some perspective on his journey. After the heat, Atti was able to let it all go and get some playtime with @greyson_hawk and all the kids from @motes_militia .
