This little guinea pig broke her left, lower incisor, getting caught up on something in her home. The tooth is fractured into multiple pointed pieces. This young pup is Rory! Rory was referred to Dr. Trevor in surgery after she began to experience intermittent hind limb lameness in February after playing with family pets. She twisted around, yelped out, and began to bunny hop. Rory's primary care vet prescribed some pain medication for her and she began walking mostly normally with intermittent lameness. Dr. Trevor performed an orthopedic exam and had X-rays taken of Rory's hind end. He discovered that Rory had partially dislocated both hips. Fortunately, there was no sign of any degenerative changes in either hip. He recommended she go to surgery. Dr. Trevor then performed a double pelvic osteotomy to improve her hip joint function and reduce instability. Our poor buddy got some bad news at the vet last week after we brought him in for lameness of his back left leg. He’s been limping off and on (different legs) since puppyhood, so we requested X-rays of all 4. Asher was diagnosed with a swollen left knee, partial tear of left ACL, possible early tear of right ACL, patella alta with bone spurs of both knee caps, and bilateral elbow dysplasia. Asher has been so depressed because we’ve kept him from jumping, running, and playing with his dog friends. We have surgical consults scheduled, since our vet recommended TPLO (correction of torn ACL). But over the past couple days, Asher seems to have rallied. He’s not even limping right now. We aren’t sure what to think of it, but we are cautiously optimistic. We’ll see what the surgeons say. In the meantime, we are just glad our buddy has his wag back. Hey everyone, Mommy and I just wanted to start off by saying thank you so so much to everyone who reached out and checked on me today or sent me a kind message and for all your prayers/positive thoughts! If we didn’t reply to you please don’t take it personally just a very overwhelming day for us but we love you all 🫶🏻 This morning we got up bright and early to get the clinic for my surgery. I was really scared when Mommy dropped me off but I tried to stay strong and brave and my specialist/surgeon, Dr Blakely, said I did amazing today and all the staff said I was such a sweet girl for them 🥰 Dr Blakely was able to go in and he was able to trace the infection from the outside (where my sore was) all the way into the plate from my previous surgery so he is confident that this has been the cause of my issue. He removed the plate and screws and cleaned everything out really well and then he sewed me all up and put a splint on to help support my leg for the next few weeks and to keep the incision clean as well. While he was in there he took cultures of the area as well as the hardware so that we can make sure I’m on the right and most effective antibiotics. Over the next few weeks, I will go in weekly for bandage changes and for the team to be able to monitor my incision and leg to make sure I’m healing properly. I will also be on antibiotics for the next 4-6 weeks to ensure that all the infection is gone and I’ll also be on pain medications to help me stay comfortable. My least favorite part of my recovery is the activity restrictions; I am not supposed to go for long walks (we start at 5 minute walks and as the weeks go on I’ll be allowed to go for longer walks as I tolerate them), I am not allowed to run or jump or play roughly or play with other furfriends, and no stairs for me either. So we’ll be doing lots of mental enrichment and cuddling, please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers and hopefully this recovery to go much smoother and I won’t have to have another surgery Luckily I was able to come home today instead of having to stay at the clinic over night, so mommy came right away to pick me up and we went home to have a nap together ❤️

Many of our dog friends hyperextend their wrist or carpal joint, leading to pain and lameness of the forelimb. When the carpus or wrist is hyperextended, it can damage the ligaments within the joint and it will not heal on its own. Compensations from this injury may lead to other injuries and/or underlying problems like a CrCL rupture or carpal hyperextension of the other front leg. Carpal hyperextension can happen from trauma when jumping down off of something or be a gradual process due to disease.
