Morning… just wanted to give an update on my #tplosurgery it went well! I came home yesterday afternoon and it was a little rough, we are not gonna lie. Mom tried to prepare as much as possible for the unknown and still wasn’t prepared for the beginning of this journey. I also got this weird haircut, not sure how I feel about it, but I guess I know what my friends feel like when they have to get haircuts (Oreo and cookie 🐾). The vet gave us quite a bit of meds to help with pain, infection and some sedation to let me relax and heal. First night was okay, I hate my crate! Mom gave in and let me sleep on my dog bed under the stairs, we had a slumber party together 😊. I was a little irritable but not a lot of pain (that mom could tell) and even ate some breakfast this morning. The last few months have been extremely tough for a number of reasons. Mr. Odin had to get TPLO surgery in February. He has healed up wonderfully and is slowly gaining more freedoms each week! Puppy Guy just had his second TPLO surgery yesterday and is having a rough time with some of the side effects of anesthesia and the very necessary pain management medication. Meet Max! Max was unfortunately hit by a car over the summer and spent 7 long and hard weeks with us in recovery. Everyone at Bayshore become very attached to Max. But after many surgeries and an unsure outcome, Max came to visit this past week! "LOVE!!! This is our dogs second TPLO surgery. His first was 2 years ago and I wish we would have found Lick Sleeve sooner. Duke did fine with the e-collar the first surgery but due to now having high anxiety due to a seizure disorder, we needed something different. It's hard to find anything for a large dog (125# and TALL) so finding this was a lifesaver! My husband and I both work full-time so leaving Duke home alone with the sleeve was nerve racking at first but he never once went after his incision wearing the Lick Sleeve and it is easy to remove for him to go potty. When we took Duke to get his staples removed the vet tech asked about his sleeve and said she is always getting asked for e-collar alternatives so we were happy to share the website with her for others. Here we are again, and again I didn’t want to talk about this because it’s thoroughly freaked me out. And some people can be really mean, on purpose or accident, and it doubly hurts when I’m feeling scared and doing my absolute best here trying to help my baby feel better. I always prefer holistic routes but I even more so prefer for Pugsley to not be in physical and mental pain. The double whammy of his pittie-joints arthritis/recovery from a surgery of a full knee tear, and not having an appetite on and off when the Cedar Fever hits him bad, is too much for me to bear. He’s endured one major surgery and is also 8…and he can’t speak to tell me exactly what he’s feeling 😩 The shots help him tremendously for periods at a time and we’ve got lots of joint supplements, Omega-3’s, our lifesaving CBD…what else can we try? I know I’ve asked this before because a ton of you have dogs who’ve undergone TPLO…what’s worked well for you? He was a different dog last night. It took him 10 minutes to decide he was ready to walk down the stairs (and I’ve had him stay downstairs since). He was scared and sad. Today, he’s literally back to normal 😭😍 The vet said if he had any of the scary things, like bone cancer (the risk is increased after knee surgery) or his surgery screws had come loose, we would see a very fast decline, tumors on his bones, and he would barely be able to walk at all. White pitties tend to have way more issues, and his brother Hurley is proof of that. This is real life post-TPLO surgery. It’s messy and hard and means a ton of gear and medications and air mattresses and one very annoyed golden retriever. Thankfully the pain medication is working, so Isabelle feels great… but the tranqs not so much. 😂 In the end, we’re just so grateful for the nurses, surgeons, and staff at VRC who love Isabelle as much as we love her.

Ethel can now have her cone off 🙌🏾 I left it off when I left for work this morning and then by the time I came home at lunchtime the little Madame had licked it and made it bleed 🤦🏽♀️ I think a couple more days of the cone whilst we are not around but off when we are home with her so we can keep an eye on her. She is also now allowed 2x 5 minute lead walks.
