🕊Olivia’s Story - Part 2🕊 Today’s post is a bit more information around her actual operations. 5 days old, she had her g-tube placed, She was fed by TPN for just over a week before we could give her breast milk. It was also quite difficult as a parent to see your child with feeding & aspiration tubes coming out of their body knowing they can’t feed like a normal baby. We quickly adapted, and at 5 weeks she had her 2nd time being sent to sleep whilst they did the gap assessment which gave us the amazing news that her op could be done so much sooner than the original 9 months we were told. We were so over joyed, but incredibly anxious about the major life changing operation she was going to be having. At 7 weeks 6days old - day 1 of her major op was begun. They went in to see where they stood in the hope they could join her straight away, but due to her already being slightly connected (very rare) they wanted to do a small stretch to ensure the connection could be tension free. (I’ll add to my stories a link to the technique they used) At 8 weeks 1day she went back in for another 7 hours, where they did a connection tension free. I really believe that the zero tension is what has helped reduce reflux and improve what foods she’s able to eat. Over the following week Olivia was weened off the paralysis and strong pain relief drugs, and by the 7th day had all breathing apparatus removed and had her first feed orally. It was only 5ml, but still pretty incredible. On the Sunday we started letting her have the boob. And slowly but surely, she became a little boob monster 💕 and we were released home on Daddies birthday just 2 weeks after having her operation. Weening Olivia was fun. It was soft foods with soft biscuit & melty crisps until she was around 12 / 14 months old. I would try food she would need to chew; but it was sometimes difficult for the two ends of her oesophagus to know which way it wanted food to go. So we had to be careful. Today Olivia eats EVERYTHING apart from fruit with skins. And bread crumbed food needs to have sauce on it too. But we are the MOST proud parents in the world. She really is amazing 🤩 💕💕💕💕💕

💕Olivia’s Story- Part 1💕 🕊Oesophageal Atresia🕊 This is the condition our daughter was born with. We found out at 23 weeks pregnant it could be either this or TOF Olivia’s condition meant that her oesophagus was not attached to her stomach. We had weekly scans to ensure her growth was on track, and that the fluid buildup was ok, (I carried ALOT of extra water and weight due to this- I lost over 2st giving birth 🙌🏻) And to make sure my cervix was ok, as it was measuring 17mm at 27 weeks. We were lucky to carry Olivia to 36 weeks, and she weighed a fabulous 4lb 12oz when she was born. Picture 5 was at 5 days old just after she had her g-tube fitted to make sure she could be fed my expressed milk, and put weight on. At 2 days old we were told she was severe long gap Oesophageal Atresia and to expect a stay of up to 9 months. At 5 weeks they did a true gap assessment and we were told her gap was extremely short, and she could have her op with in 2-3 weeks. At 7 weeks old we had a new born shoot (1st pic) when she weighed just over 7lbs. And at 8 weeks she had her operation to connect her up so that she could eat orally. With in 2 weeks of her operation we were home, and she was breastfeeding. This is why breastfeeding has been so important to me. It was the only thing I felt I got right, and whilst in hospital I felt helpless, and expressing was my way contributing to being a 1st time mum in a hospital environment 💕 I will forever be grateful to ALL of the nurses and the surgeons who worked on Olivia in our short time. With her condition; we were one of the lucky ones. 10weeks + 1 day in Hospital and only 6 weeks corrected, we bought our little girl home weighing 8lbs 2oz This week we were told Olivia is thriving by her surgeon, and we can stop her omeprazole as he doesn’t feel she needs it. (This is for reflux) Our journey to getting Olivia is a whole separate story; and for Olivia we will always be forever blessed 💕 #nicubaby #gtubefed #pnfed #surgicalbaby #ourlittlemiracle #shesthebest #luckyparents #pretermbaby #premie #prematurebaby #premature #prembaby #livinginhospital #newbuildhome #loveournewbuild #ourhomeisourlife #decorindeed
