What to eat before exercise… The key to your pre-training meal or snack is to ensure it contains carbohydrate, is comfortable and contains some fluids for hydration. An easily digestible meal or snack that is low in fat and fibre is the perfect combination to PRIME your body to perform at its best. Failing to PRIME your body can lead to the dreaded “hitting the wall” moment during your session. Being low in fibre and fat means that you will be able to quickly digest and absorb the carbohydrates, and get them to where they are needed, avoiding any gut upset or discomfort. When you fail to PRIME repeatedly during the week, you will exhaust your bodies fuel ⛽️ stores and you will end up fatigued by the end of the week. This might mean you don’t achieve the right stimulus for a particular goal or, could leave you frustrated because you couldn’t perform at your best. Wearing @palm.noosa’s ‘Noddy Dress’ in Blue Hydrangea🌼 I’m always partial to a good store-bought pastry when entertaining as it crosses off a big task from my to-do list, leaving just one element of the dessert to prep in advance! And for my Lemon Blueberry Tart, it’s no different—all you need to do is bake the tart case, make the filling (all in one pot!), bake it, and top with berries!👩🏻‍🍳 Ingredients👇🏽 •1 x sheet of pre-made shortcrust pastry, thawed (I always use @caremepastry’s vanilla bean shortcrust pastry) •200ml freshly-squeezed lemon juice  •Zest of 2 lemons •140g caster sugar  •170g unsalted butter, cut into small cubes  •4 eggs •4 egg yolks  •530g fresh blueberries Method 1. Preheat oven to 170°C. Grease and line a removable-bottom tart tin. Unroll the pastry and gently place inside the tin. Place in the freezer for 15 minutes. This will prevent the pastry from shrinking in the oven. Remove from the freezer and prick the base with a fork 6-7 times all over, then line the base with parchment paper and fill with baking weights. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove weights and bake for another 5 minutes, or until the base of the tart is lightly golden. Set aside to cool while you prepare the filling.
 2. Place the lemon juice, zest, sugar, butter, eggs and yolks in a saucepan over love heat. Whisky gently until the butter is melted, then increase to medium heat and whisk consistently, until the mixture thickens; about 3-4 minutes. It should coat the back of the spoon well. 
 3. Pour the curd into the pre-baked tart shell and bake for another 5-6 minutes, or until the curd is just set (it will still be quite soft). I have LOVED the way that running has gained popularity and traction over the past year. Seeing so many people who have previously identified as hating running, now off with their run clubs and signing up for events. It’s incredible! There have been a lot of running races recently - London marathon, London landmarks half marathon, Paris marathon, etc etc. and along with these races, I’ve been overhearing many conversations. A common theme is earning food. Allowing yourself certain foods or feeling deserving of certain foods, only because you have exercised a certain amount. And on the flip side, feeling like you can’t have these foods if you have exercised as much as others or an arbitrary rule you have placed on yourself. You deserve to eat the pastry even if you didn’t attend run club, you have permission to eat the same meal as your friends that ran the marathon even if you didn’t run, and exercise is so not about punishing yourself or burning calories.
