First off f*ck the system that intentionally prevents good food from being attainable to each of us at an affordable cost. The fact that poisoned food costs less than un poisoned food makes no sense- since the poison is an additional step in the processing of that food. Second, sugar, salt, and flour feed your stomach but not your spirit. Full stop. This is why you need to know your culture Native. Most health issues result from what we choose to put into our bodies and eating good food and drinking fresh water is extending your life and the quality of it. kkkolonizers literally stole healthy food knowledge and growing practices from Indigenous people and sell it back to us now like the land was theirs all along. Thieves. Liars. Genociders. They owe us. EATING LOCAL, ORGANIC,AND IN SEASON IS TRADITIONAL! NOT SOME NEW AGE TREND! β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” If i didnt say anything to yall about this than it would show i didnt care. Yall mfs welcome.

There was legit no one doing traditional tattoos on the coast when i started in 2009. That meant there was no one to ask- no tv series- or hashtags on social media. As i have shared the knowledge with a select few i have watched the visibility of our markings reach farther than ever have before. You are witnessing the revival before your very eyes and if you really about the culture you will make a way to support the movement. ITS ON US. ITS FOR US. OF US. OF THE LAND. OF THE OCEAN AND RIVERS. ITS THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.

If you spend more than a few minutes with me you will hear the voice of my grandmother. If you pass me the mic youll hear Łingít before english. It is proof that ive taken time to listen and remember what i have this far. I am incredibly thankful for my language teachers. They taught me how to see. Far too few of us invest in our language and bring it forward with the actual urgency and visibility it demands of each of us. Lets make it happen.

4/26/2022, 9:42:19 PM

It was all planned how them colonizers stole the wealth stole the land its all a plan to keep Natives displaced at risk and houseless without food security without the knowledge stole from us for generations shits insidious we just tryinta live and they stay tryinta silence they only speaking violence but yo mfs ITS BECOMING OUR TIME AGAIN we witnessing the rise of our tribes again standing tall with clinched hands fists and all power songs echoing again taking back what is ours once again.

I will never forgive the people that stole killerwhale calves to keep captive for profit in some f’in swimming pools in far away places. These are the same people who also stole Indigenous children from their families and held them captive in boarding/ residential schools to also torture and rape and murder them. That is a particular type of wickedness that only can be associated with the lineage of colonizers. That shits forever beef fam.

Not many ladies weave the special spruce root baskets anymore- nor are the baskets on top of the list when it comes to repatriation by tribes.-also-its bs that tribes have to initiate the returns when the institutions/museums continually make profit and β€œprofessions” off of hustling our ancestors work. Part of our culture is creating that once in a lifetime -you had to be there- experience. During those big occasions i sometimes have to remind people to put their phones away and just live the gift of the present- and to not focus on recording it with some external device but to truly activate the power of their memory. In these ways i work to protect moments, spaces and relationships that i consider truly sacred. Its not about hiding anything from being seen- its about honoring a special type of love and respect. Those of you who know my significant achievements and accomplishments were entrusted with that information for a reason. GunaΕ‚chΓ©esh to each of you who continue to support the vision. On this day 3 years ago we threw Uncle Paul a kΜ²oo.Γ©ex’ and celebration of life that i had organized and envisioned. I just got tired of always having COB’s after people already passed away and wanted to give uncle his love while he was still here. At this potlatch names were given by the Deisheetaan and i served as one of the naakaanis. My dance group held down the food and venue and cleanup. Hear me now when i write this to you and take this shit seriously: SAY WHAT YOU GOTTA SAY TO THOSE ONES YOU LOVE NOW. SHOW THEM. DONT JUST TELL THEM. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. My hope was and is that our elders would start receiving celebrations like this while they are still alive to experience them. That this potlatch become the rule and not the exception here in Seattle. Ive endured a whole lotta death my whole life. A whole lotta grief. A good amount of trauma. But lifting eachother up! Celebrating eachother! Perpetuating the richness of our culture is the way! Living and breathing it! Not cancelling our culture! Rest in power uncle. im glad i and we were able to do even just this small act for you. I miss having you dance and tell stories to us. You seriously helped guide so many of us. I know youre still singing and still dancing all the way home. Miss you. HOO HAA!!!!!

Wealth comes in many forms. Knowledge, songs, generosity, teachings, stories, wisdom, kindness, love, compassion, communication, acceptance, honesty, being uplifting, and landback are all forms of wealth that are often overlooked and underdeveloped in places of colonial occupation like the so called usa and so called canada. Theres a myth that says β€œunless youve been an addict you dont know what its like-so you cant speak about it” -its time to add to that. Growing up witnessing first hand the type of BS that comes along with addiction/ weed smoke/ hard drug use/ alcohol gives you more than enough information about how to address the shit. When you dont have an option to leave an unstable environment that is drug involved itll make you do one of two things: allow you accept the example youve been given as normal and thus follow suit and do the same shit OR you do just the opposite and become sober and without use of any of the substances listed above. I absolutely thank and acknowledge my ancestors for being that voice i heard inside myself as a young boy telling me the examples i was given were not the ones to copy. GunaΕ‚chΓ©esh haa shukΓ‘!! It is my prayer today that every child being raised in those dangerous environments with unstable examples also have and hear their ancestors voices leading them away from the dangers presented by the very people they love. That those youngsters somehow someway hold fast to the purity they were born with for the rest of their lives. And that at some point they receive the support needed to recognize their health as a gift that is always worth fighting for. Youngster- you can forever speak about your experience and understandings. Recognize that your sharing is valuable and it may indeed save another persons life - even if they never tell you about it. Adult/older/elder- im speaking to the child in all of you now. SOBRIETY IS DECOLONIZATION BEING HEALTHY IS INDIGENIZATION

3/10/2022, 4:57:45 PM

This is a painting my bro and i made for my mom a few years back. We put it up just as Seattles Womens march was rallying at the park across the street. The theme for their walk was β€œstrength” and i reflected on our Tlingit culture. For us we are matrilineal not patriarchal not matriarchal. Because of the bloodline inherited from my mother and her mothers mother i am People of the Upper Sand Bar. I took a pic of my mom and used it as a reference for the top part of this tΓnaa or copper shield which has been and still is a symbol of great wealth for our people on the central and north coast. I felt it was important for the general public to know how our tribe has functioned since time immemorial - how we are our mothers clan and tribe not our fathers. Its different for every tribe along the coast but on ŁingΓt Aani thats how we do. This piece also highlights an Indigenous woman- in a city and country where most colonizer women voted for racist politrickians like donald trump. Moms aint about that sh*t tho. Shes about that dekkkolonization life. See us. ✊🏾✊🏾❀️❀️

Its such an honor to skinstitch and handpoke the markings of the people for the people. Ive tattooed around 60 faces at this point in my career and each one is incredibly transformational for me as well as the wearers. I truly look forward to completing more. Not every tribe had chin tattoos on this continent. And it is based on lineage. Ill tell you that much. But, it is not my job to tell anyone what the markings mean, nor is it any one elses. In fact when non Natives ask us Indigenous people ANY type of question: WE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ANSWER TO THEM. Yall gotta stop with that caucasity. Indigenous people OWE NOTHING to settlers nor colonizers that are occupying our homelands. Remember that. ...................................................... #beforeamerikkka #tlingit #coastal #hellacoastal #wewearthecoast #wearethecoast #longlivethecoast #tlingitart #tradishyabish #indigenous #indigenousmade #nativenotamerikkkan #indigenousbeauty #originalnations #firstnations #landback #decolonize #indigenize #nahaan #protectorsnotprotestors #waterislife #resist #education #pootd #nature #lead #environment #waterislife #nativepride #nativebeauty

They want our land, our β€œnatural resources”, they want the peaceful Native, the creative one, the wise one, but not the one that recognizes the war being brought upon us for the past 530 years, not the one that thinks critically and is down to fight back against it. They want the language speaker, the storyteller the carver and the singer, not the organizer, the outspoken, the clinched fist raiser. For these reasons whenever i am asked to speak about the beautiful parts of our culture- i must also bring forward the issues our people faced in the past and still face everyday. Those reasons add to the immensity of any act by our people to practice our culture. Big wealth. No matter the platform, no matter the audience, no matter. #LANDBACK

3/2/2022, 5:48:05 PM

If you know your peoples stories then youll know better what it means to practice our culture today. Inside our stories is our histories. Our people maintained a strict line for those who were taught the stories so that they would be passed down through the generations exactly as they were first told. Sometimes our stories and experiences are brutal-like how colonizers used biological warfare, residential school, and religion against our people to attempt to kill us off. This is what you see in these hands i made. Our people didnt have a word for β€œart” but we have a number of different words for story.

3/1/2022, 6:53:06 PM

True story.

2/28/2022, 8:11:18 PM

Several years back, while living in Ketchikan and deciding to fast from english for an entire day for my very first time- i was asked to speak at an event honoring one of our Tlingit leaders Elizabeth Peratrovitch. I told my relatives that i was only speaking ŁingΓt that day and my whole speech would be delivered in our ancestral language. I did so. My teacher and relative YΓ©iΕ‚ Yadi, Nathan Jackson got up after me and translated what i had said. The decisions and commitments we make to ourselves our ancestors our teachers our future generations echo out far beyond ourselves- even when we may not intend for them to. By stepping into our peoples language i had to sacrifice communication in the foreign and invasive colonial language called english. I have offered up communicating with more people in exchange for communicating with our ancestors. And ill tell you- every step has been worth it. yΓ©i Γ‘wΓ© Γ‘! GunaΕ‚chΓ©esh!

2/27/2022, 5:11:40 PM

YΓ©i kΜ²kwatee Γ‘! From coast to coast across all our continents. Return the homes right on the water where our ancestors once lived. Return the money made from the β€œnatural resources” and colonial occupation of 530 years. Return all museum artifacts, return all the stolen gold that was used to build the vatican. Return all the acres, all the β€œparks”, all the β€œpublic lands”, remove the dams, restore the balance, it is owed and past due. Indigenous people should not be paying rent and taxes to colonizers on stolen lands. Give land back. Give your house back. Its easy. F*kk apologies and empty land acknowledgements. Deposit money. Return land. Return it all.

2/25/2022, 5:46:31 PM

The difference between knowing and the practice of that knowledge is what determines our relationship to time and truth. We have traded sustainability for convenience. But our people have already lived a better way. Returning to those Indigenous practices is essential if there is to be a future. Treat everything as your relative not as your resources. LAND BACK

Knowing your peoples stories is so important. I learn something new almost everytime i hear the same story again. Our peoples stories are so rich and even though they took place such a long time ago the wisdom reaches far beyond today. Im thankful my teachers told me many stories, none of which were about a perfect person or being- but all of which have aspects of imperfection that resonate with our being human experience. The more you know these type of stories the more compassion, innerstanding, acceptance and love you are able to share with yourself and ultimately other people. Get back to learning before crucifying another human because of the pop culture religious like expectations of them. YΓ©i Γ‘wΓ© Γ‘.

I have visions. I work to bring them forward from the spirit world. They arent perfect. Neither were our ancestors tho. But they echo humanity and the supernatural. The balance. The truth that is without time. I made this mural as a way to address the ongoing pollution of the ocean-specifically after fukushima and the nuclear waste that was dumping into the ocean. We have to do better. I went straight to paint on this piece- no projectors or templates or nothing like that. Just bringing the message forward for yall. GunaΕ‚chΓ©esh

Police dont know law they just enforce it. They arent peacemakers in fact they are just the opposite. They hide behind their badge and make quick judgements because the lack of possible repercussion to them. They arent paid to critically think they are paid to be controled and be a force against the people. They make uninformed decisions that forever affect the lives of people they dont know. I cant tell you how many times our ceremony, our way of life, our well being, our culture has been damaged by people who set aside their own humanity to commit inhumane acts against other humans. Police are cancel culture. Dont be like the police.

I tattoo everyone. Its an honor to share our culture. Its an extension of my ancestors love and the way they were so inclusive. In balance. In reciprocity. In respect. In love. We have to work with eachother. We have to create safe spaces where Indigenous people are prioritized and we dont have to explain ourselves to settlers and colonizers everytime we speak from our collective experiences. We still share. We still are the voice and embodiment of the land and ocean. YΓ©i Γ‘wΓ©
