We drove through a waterfall! LITERALLY! 😱😅 When we were starting the Ha Giang trip, we had no idea what awaits us. And this was the first time we didn't plan anything at all. We came to @qtmotorbikes and chose a bike; they suggested an awesome route, and that was it. 🤷♀️ Little did we know that we'll have a crazy adventure straight that day! One part of the road that leads to Du Gia is almost non-existent, not even sure if you can call it a road considering it was just huge piles of rocks with huge holes in it. 😅 We already had a wtf moment here, so you can imagine our reaction when we saw this waterfall in the middle of the road. YOU LITERALLY DRIVE THROUGH A WATERFALL! Ah, I'll never forget that excitement! 😍 ✅TRAVEL TIP: If you're doing Ha Giang Loop, take enough days. I wouldn't suggest anything less than three days, although five is ideal if you ask me. First of all, the weather is so unpredictable, and second, the whole area is so beautiful that you'll be stopping all the time. We had to drive during the night that first day as we stopped too much, and I don't recommend that. 😁 We fell in love with the area and hope to spend even more time in Ha Giang the next time. Fingers crossed! 🤞 ❓Do you have any other crazy road trips to recommend? I'd love to hear your suggestions.
Enjoying the view of Tu San canyon – South East Asia's deepest canyon. 😍 @mattgoesremote and I don't have many photos together. We feel too awkward when we need to take one as we're not really for those classic couple photos. 😅 Plus, Matej is still kind of camera shy, while I got much better at it as we pushed me more in front of the camera. But now it's time for him to get comfortable too. Do you have any tips on how to do that? 😁 Are you camera shy as well? ☺️ P.S. this is our favorite pose for most of our Ha Giang photos. It's that classic „Look at it!“ pose, the one that many people do here. 😁
The iconic Tham Ma Pass in Ha Giang. There is a viewpoint where you can get that classic IG shot of the road. It's from a bit lower perspective than this photo because this one was taken with a drone. But here is the reason why I'm not a fan of this spot. This is a very popular stop for many bus tours. Unfortunately, the reason is not this road, but the famous Ha Giang flower girls. I've seen so many photos of little kids, especially girls, with flower crowns on IG, and it was so weird that I haven't seen them anywhere during the first few days of the loop. Until we came here… There were a lot of them here because this is their 'working office'. Yes, you read that correctly. This is where these poor kids are used as photo props for many tourists that come just because of that. They are dressed in nice traditional clothing and have a lot of make up on (especially red lipstick) and flower crowns that they also sell. We saw at least three buses that came here in a short time, quickly took photos with the kids, and then left. They were running all over the place, pushing little girls to have them for themselves and get that perfect shot. Some of them literally dragged them, put them on the desired spot, and didn't even look back at them once the photo was taken. They couldn't care less about the kids. After all, they came here just to get that one perfect photo with cute Ha Giang kids. Nothing else mattered. ‼️If you're planning to visit this place, please don't participate in this behavior. ‼️These kids should be in school instead of working as photo props for tourists. They shouldn't be treated this way. I didn't take a single photo of them as it just felt wrong. However, I'm scared that this problem is already too complicated and it will continue for many years, same as in Sapa where kids that can barely sit upright are made to sell souvenirs to tourists. ~What do you think about this? Did you encounter anything similar somwhere else? If yes, where?
Ha Giang Loop is full of surprises, and one of the biggest ones was this: a massive waterfall in the middle of the road! 😍 Can you see how tiny we are? 😄 On the way back from Yen Minh to Ha Giang City, we took a different route than all the other drivers. The road on this route is pretty damaged, so many people avoid it. However, we didn't know that before. @qtmotorbikes suggested this route, and we didn't question it at all as we knew we could trust them. Plus, we had a great bike that can handle offroad pretty well (highly suggested if you're confident to drive it). But this road… Oh wow! 😍 I don't know where to start! It's perfect for adventure junkies as it's full of curves and it's descending all the time. I bet it would look crazy from the drone's perspective! The road is practically new, but it was destroyed by landslides—quite a lot in the last two years. Parts are missing, so you have to watch out when you drive because you can quickly slide off the cliff. We drove under an excavator, through landslides, and much more. And we were the only tourists there. There was no one except a few locals here and there. Oh, and the view was outstanding the whole way, I can't forget to mention that. 😁 The thing is, everything else was so crazy that I always forget to mention the view when I talk about this route. 😅 ~What was your similar adventure? 😊

My favorite thing in the world is swimming in natural pools. That's why I love visiting waterfalls. No matter how big or small they are, I always enjoy them. ❤️ ~Do you love swimming in natural pools? Oh and, this is Du Gia waterfall, a little gem of Du Gia that we almost missed! I have no idea how, but luckily other travelers in the homestay told us about it, so we managed to visit on the last morning in Du Gia. However, that day it was cloudy and raining, while days before that was hot and sunny – oh how lucky we were. 😁 I still regret not taking a swim here (if you're like me, you can imagine 🥺), but it was too cold, and we were short on time. Taking a mirror selfie is a must while doing the Ha Giang Loop! You need to have at least one! All of you who did the loop, do you have one? 😝 Now, let's go to the story. My worst nightmare happened after I took this photo. 🙈 So, we were on this cool road, and I wanted to take a cool shot of @qtmotorbikes . That morning it rained, and everything was muddy. And as you can see, I had my perfectly white Converse shoes on. I bet you already know where I’m going with this 😅 Anyway, I found one cool spot where I can safely take a photo as we were at the curve. It was a big pile of earth/mud, but it looked firm. @mattgoesremote tried it first, and it seemed fine. BUT I stepped 10 centimeters further than he did. And what happened? My whole shoe went in the big pile of mud. It was completely brown with layers and layers of mud. 🤦♀️ Now, I know this doesn't seem like such a big deal to you, but keep in mind that I have a small amount of clothes with me as I'm traveling full-time, and these white Converse shoes are the only good shoes I have. I'm so emotionally attached to them that I almost started crying (well, a few tears did run down my face). 🙈 But if travel taught me one thing, it's definitely to start solving problems right away on the spot, without too much drama (most of the time). There was a small water source near the road, so I took the shoe off and removed the mud. Matej took the extra toothbrush that we have (it was a smart move to have one on the side! Take notes people! 😁), and we brushed the whole shoe in the water with that small toothbrush. And it worked! 🥰 You can see a slight difference in the color between the two, but only if they're wet. I call that success! 💪 SWIPE LEFT to see the finishing stage of washing. That's the only photo I have as my heart was broken, and I couldn't force myself to take a photo until I realized the situation is saveable. 🤣 ✅Moral of the story: don't take good shoes for Ha Giang Loop! Unless you're doing it the fancy way. But don't do that, that's not fun. Where are the adventures and memories like this then? 😀

For @passionpassport ‘s #PPOnceUponATime challenge // My favorite photo from Ha Giang Loop roadtrip. It perfectly portrays what I love the most: motorbike rides with my boyfriend and incredible landscapes. We planned to do the loop in five days, but we had to extend for three additional days because it was raining too much, and we couldn't continue because of it. This was actually the worst day weather-wise. It was constantly raining, and I started feeling anxious. I was closed in a small room, lying in bed with the heating on and just one wish in my mind – to go out and explore. I fell in love with the Ha Giang Loop the first day of our trip, and it seemed like we're wasting time not being outside. So we put our raincoats on, sat on the bike, and went for a ride. I knew I probably wouldn't take any photos if it's raining, but I still wanted to go for it. For my soul, if nothing else. It would be a shame not to take in as much of these views as possible. After all, the mountains are my happy place. 😊 The ride up didn't look promising at all. On top of the rain, there was thick fog as well. We could barely see anything besides the road. But then this happened. We came to this spot, and it was the only place around that wasn't covered in thick fog! Plus, it stopped raining for a bit too. That's how I got this shot! I will call that magic. We sat on our bike and enjoyed this mystical scene. Everything was so quiet as there weren't many people outside, and the fog kept playing around, covering and uncovering the canyon. Honestly, I don't think this spot would be this special it wasn't for the fog on this gloomy rainy day. I call this one of my favorite moments from Ha Giang. And it taught us one thing, even if it's raining, we should go out and experience those moments as well. You never know what awaits you. 😊

Have you really been to Vietnam if you didn't ride the Ha Giang loop? 😀 Ha Giang became my favorite area in Vietnam. It was love at first sight. ❤️ I knew it would be amazing, but I did not expect landscapes like this! It's crazy! 🤯 I was speechless most of the time, and I felt so small with those gigantic mountains all around. 🏔 Photos and videos can't show how majestic this place is. This was one of the moments when I was completely lost and had no idea how to take a photo that would justify the beauty of this area. And we haven't even gotten to the most beautiful part yet! 😀 Can't wait to show you more! TRAVEL TIP: If you plan to do the loop, I highly recommend doing it with @qtmotorbikes . Hemos estado desconectados unos días disfrutando de una de las mejores experiencias que podéis visitar en Vietnam: se trata del Loop de Ha Giang, una espectacular ruta en moto de 4 días en la que quedaréis maravillados con el paisaje, salvaje donde lo haya, de sus poblados con minorías étnicas Hmongs, sus coloridos trajes y mercados locales, alojamientos en casas locales donde convivir con la familia y vivir su día a día...una zona prácticamente sin turismo donde viviréis la esencia de Vientam en estado puro. #FAQ ➡️ Do I need a local motorbike license to ride along the Loop? Will police stop me and check on license? . Though you don't need a Vietnamese motorcycle license (which is very hard to obtain for a foreigner) you are required to have proper motorcycle licence from your home country supported by an International Driving Licence/Permit (IDP) to drive a motorcycle/scooter in Vietnam. Now, we are not strict on this and assume all our customers are adults and can take proper decisions on risk vs. adventure 😉 Police are not likely to stop you and check on licence, they are more likely to stop you if over-speeding in northern Vietnam. #SafetyTip: If you do not have proper licence or experience on a motorcycle a much safer and practical way to experience the beauty of the northern Vietnam is behind one of our guide/drivers. - Got further questions? Stop 1, Yen Minh for delicious Banh Mi, and then a diversion to Pho Bang, close to the border with Yunnan, China, before heading back down the same twisty undulated route to Dong Van, a common stopover town for wearied travellers doing the loop!
