Grandpa Rainbow (Huang Yung-fu) a war veteran, lived for 37 years in his village until the government decided to knock it down in order to build something new. He didn’t want to move as it was the space he called home. So, after all his neighbors moved and he remained alone he started to paint it, doing drawings as his father taught him when he was 5, in order to get rid of loneliness and boredom. The colourful rainbow village of Jodipan and blue village of Kampung Biru Arema are real highlights of any visit to Malang, on the Indonesian island of Java. Both former slums, a group of students from a local University came up with a plan to give them a splash of colour. With the help of personnel from the Indonesian Air Force they completed the stunning transformation of these villages. The small entry fee, which is put back into the population of the villages, allows you to wander the small alleys and bridges of both villages. We loved seeing this cute attraction during our time in Taichung. Rainbow village is a group of houses that use to be occupied by military personnel. The government had decided to demolish most of them but maintained this location due to the adorable artwork that Huang Yong-Fu painted around the remaining houses. Petit village colorés de Malang 💙 Ces villages étaient anciennement des quartiers défavorisés voués à disparaître. Ce quartier était l’un des plus grands bidonvilles d’Indonésie. Grâce à l’initiative de 8 étudiants qui ont eu comme projet la mise en valeur de ces maisons, en les peignant de toutes les couleurs, en ajoutant de nombreuses fresques, le village est devenu touristique au fil du temps. Grâce à eux, ils ont empêché la démolition et ainsi améliorer la qualité de vie des habitants grâce au paiement du droit d’entrée. 🇹🇼Day3 Taking the Taiwan Railway from Taipei to Taichung. Last October, I met a wonderful Taiwanese couple in Vietnam 🇻🇳 Six months later, my dream reunion came true! In Taichung, I also had new encounters! Traveling presents numerous encounters and fresh realizations, which is why it’s impossible to quit!! And on this day, we were lucky to experience the beginning of the Da Jia Mazu Rao Jing festival. This festival involves the palanquin procession of Mazu, the goddess of the sea and Taoist deity, visiting temples across central Taiwan over nine days. Participants walk alongside Mazu for the entire duration. Grateful to my Taiwanese friends who took me to places I wanted to visit and local festivals. Lost like a wallpaper. Located in the outskirts of Taichung's Nantun district, this was a looong bus ride from Taichung TRA Station. In fact, it was the last stop! The Rainbow Village was the handiwork of a former Hong Kong soldier who refused to vacate his village until he was the sole inhabitant left. Out of boredom, he started painting his house with a bird. These paintings spread all over a small village of 11 houses, now called Rainbow Village. These days, the Rainbow Village is among the city's most popular attractions. Tourists come in busloads.
