AMNESIA HOUSE - November 1994 A piece of flyer art history bought back courtesy of eBay. 🎨❤️🎨 There have been a few purchases recently. 💰❤️💰 I still have many of the original pieces of artwork created for the flyers. Some however were “lost at the printers” apparently. 🤣🤣🤣 The whole story is the actual printed flyer complete with line up and event details. This is one of three pieces created for Amnesia, always a pleasure. One of the original party organisations and still putting on events. 🕺🏿🕺🏿🕺🏿 Early Pez flyers featured typography painted by hand a spill over from my graffiti days, later on it was easier for the promoter to drop in logos and computer graphics, changing them for each party. I liked the idea of amnesia within amnesia at the top. 🖌️ 🖌️🖌️ TRIPPY 🫠 candles burn and melt the smiling face splitting the face in two. ORIGINAL QUAD SQUAD John Kelly was born in Liverpool in 1960s has been Djing since 1985 and has played an integral role in the growth of dance music and the scene from its early days, playing at the first illegal raves. His upbringing was a very musical one, his home was always filled with sounds as his large family always had gatherings and parties. The first time he DJed was beside a mantelpiece with his CD player - he had built up a big collection of CDs at home and then started playing them at his uncle’s pub, the Bow and Arrow in Liverpool. There weren’t any CD mixers back then so it was a one on one off - the young, innovative and curious John then started using vinyl and kicked off his incredible collection, when he observed that records could be mixed and scratched. He first learned how to put music together and mix beats at The Underground Club that he bought with mate and Cream man James Barton. It was there he observed the crowd reactions when he played certain records in a certain order and where he learned the skills of his trade. Soon he became proficient in mixing everything up from old pop to new house cuts and where his distinctive sound was born. After the Underground he & James were invited to play at Quadrant Park a club and all night warehouse in Bootle by one of the residents @andycarrolldj . Quadrant Park as we all know, became a massive rave with people travelling far and wide to experience it's unique atmosphere. Since The Quad era John Kelly has built up an incredible career and he has played at every notable club in UK and abroad, with a residency at the @ministryofsound in 1999. His international DJ and production career has taken him to every corner of the world - from Tokoyo to Las Vegas, New Zealand to Hong Kong and NYC to South Africa. Ibiza has always been a special place for John and he’s lived there for many summers due to his popularity there. On This Day: Ark Town and Country Leeds 10th April 1993 flyer. Throwback to the legendary Ark club nights! From ‘91 to ‘97, it was THE spot for house and rave music in Leeds, England. DJs like Rob Tissera, Anne Savage, and DJ Sy kept the beats pumping, while MC Rush and live PA’s added to the hype. On Sat the bloody ace @betterdaysshow stage show returns to Manchester and will be performed live at @theyard_mcr where I’ll be playing some tunes for the afters! 🤯 It’s a one-man show created by @btagoe17 which centres on the character of Danny, a 19-year-old in 1990 (played amazingly by @george___martinn), who finds himself torn between the thriving house music scene and the gang of football hooligans he is fiercely loyal to. I caught it last year at The Carlton Club and to say it felt reflective of my own ‘clubbing conversion’ would be an understatement! Few tickets left at Skiddle. 📣 See inside The Dungeons, Lea Bridge Road 📣 We’ve been lucky enough to work with @thebizzybscience @originaldjdlux @creativeengagementservices to go back into The Dungeons, Lea Bridge Road to capture the interior before it’s developed. Preserving and sharing this iconic venue and its important cultural heritage. Capturing the interior through 4,000 photos and transformed into 3D models hosted on Sketchfab, and using 360 degree video, the spaces can be explored using VR headsets. We also trialled a living sculpture using volumetric capture and AR, with the idea of this being accessed via a QR code and a phone outside the former venue informed passers-by of the vibrant cultural hub this once was. We’ve gained support from @vrartist_seanrodrigo @livicggurl #OluwafemiLamusa @hi3network. Thanks also to dancer is @keziwarwick and everyone else involved. Her Djax records is widely considered as one of electronic music’s most important labels, an imprint that has shaped modern dance music culture to this very day. Her connection to Detroit and Chicago is expressed through her innovative, radical fusion of European and American House and Techno, creating a bridge that helped connect young Motor & Windy City artists to the other side of the globe, where some would go on to become superstars in their own right.
